Looking at a lot of other stuff but working my way around. Scales of just and the gun coffin minis looked amazing.
One of the guys at the club has just started getting to grips with nastiness he can work with his Guild crew, burning people and making fire creatures (or something) out of the dead. Not played him yet but it looks nasty :0
Just picked up a lovely painted crew for the arcanists - Collete, Cassandra, dancers and mannequins - looking forward to trying them.

I like seeing death marshalls boxing papa loco (a psychotic guild model who blows himself and everyone around him up but has problems getting across the board because people focus on killing him so he doesn't blow up their crew)

Papa in the box gets even more entertaining when he tells Perdita or Sonnia to Hold This, giving them + flips to damage until he activates again, which he cannot do while boxed.

The Justice box is great. The Judge has to be one of my all-time favourite minis and his rules are epic (shoot attack hits? He throws his sword as a follow-up. Melee attack hits? He shoots as a follow up. Effective, and oh-so-awesome!). Pine Box is good for getting the likes of Lady J to where they work best, Scales can be fun doling out +/- flips, and Death Marshals are surely among the best minis in the range.

Honestly, I'd not look for two starters that synergise, but two starters that play differently. The Dreamer is a summoner/support master, with a built in super beatstick with Lord Chompy Bits. But his starter box isn't really much of a start - Alps aren't great and you'll need scheme runners. I've recommended in the other thread how I'd personally expand the Dreamers starter. I don't know a lot about Zoraida or Lynch to comment. Pandora is definitely different though, but she's really tricky to play. She's all about controlling your opponent, and punishing them for it. Her crew has a lot of skills that make enemies hurt themselves with their own attacks, paralyse enemies, force certain activation orders and punish the opponent after forcing them to activate in a certain order. Lots of Willpower checks that cause damage if failed, rather than causing damage through sheer face punching.

Lynch is good because he allows you to continue with Neverborn or branch into Ten Thunders.

Ten Thunders is like Malifaux's version of a gate-way drug.

I haven't bought a single mini for malifaux yet but the hobby (not even the actual gaming) sucks me in and malifaux has so many gorgeous minis even from their old line im thinking about ignoring factions and just picking up a couple of cheap boxes of the old line to get started with some friends with.
So that way i enjoy the painting without the pressure of a big cash investment and have a couple of small squads to do some small games with friends with.
Then probably go balls out on a justic guild crew and neverborn dreamer crew haha
Really REALLY liking the look of the old leviticus box (those steampunk abominations are the gak), really REALLY like the Colette box really like the old sonia box, nicodem box. with the new sculpts loving dreamer, justice, mcmouring, pandora, seamus and lucius boxes.
So yeah, this is why I haven't made up my mind yet hahaha, play style wise is malifaux unbalanced or is it like a lot of other skirmish games where just roll with a box or two and you good

The sculpts really are fantastic. My brother and I were going to take it slow, buy a crew each, and slowly expand it as we play.
I started with lilith, and expanded it with the Nephilim box. Then got tempted by Pandora. Then finally got my hands on a Teddy. Then saw the Dreamer pre-sale and jumped on it, and grabbed a Nightmare Whiskey Golem because why not? That also got me Miss Ery, a second Teddy. Then Nekimas new model wowed me and I grabbed it and the Carver. Then I figured why not try some old metals? And suddenly I had some Stitched Togethers, Tuco and Iggy.
And Now I have a backlog of Malifaux which I didn't want to happen.

Im back logged with infinity and bushido and just bought 3 malifaux starters ahahaha.
feth.
Either way! Got the old sonja box and the new mcmouring because melon-fething zombie chihuaha sold me and jacob box. I got two friends i play boardgames with and instead of roping people in figured id just supply everything since i just dug the models so much.
Have zero interest in the asian minis but probably get some zombies and a guilds judgment box ontop of a neverborn crew. Looking forward to getting some painting done soon! Prob should build my nomads first...

Yeah the old metal could sometimes be problematic. The new plastics can be fiddly, but the glue is easier to work and more predictable.

Yeah metal is fine. Infinity has taught me many things. If this stuff is a lot harder I have bone saws, files and things on hand if need be.
Looking at buying an old zoraida box as well... if only i didnt like the old models so much
Do you have to buy the amendment packs or can you get cards off their site?

Unless the card was changed since it was released (such as Cojo, Barbaros, Francisco, and Sammael), the cards aren't online through wyrd. You can buy the arsenal box or photocopy them from the big rule book.

So wave 1 cards are in the big rulebook wave 2 in crossroads? So its a pretty hefty expense to get all that covered for rules.
Might just get the wave cards for the specific factions I want the 1ed minis for. Still a lot cheaper than the plastics at this stage, locally at least.

It's hard to stress just how great Crossroads is, though. You can get the cards via the Arsenal decks, but the short stories are only in Crossroads and they really add a lot to the characters and the setting.

Cheapest option is to get the mini rulebook and the wave 1 and wave 2 arsenal decks for your faction. That'll come in under half of the AU cost of the big rulebook, not even considering Crossroads. But you also get the cards needed for each model in the boxes of models. You'll be missing some upgrades, but you'll be able to play. But the arsenal decks are so cheap, it's hard to not recommend getting them, if only to have access to all of the upgrades. But, if you're interested in seeing what other factions can do later, or are interested in the fluff at all, pick up the big books. They're great.

+1 to this.
That story is one of the best in all of Malifaux.
I think my second favorite is also a Molly one, where she's chatting with Phillip, ignoring Seamus, and trying to figure out the eye color of a boy, while Seamus tries to bust a bank with a giant three-belle flesh construct.

Hahaha, i've gone for four crews to begin with (im hoping to rope friends into playing by providing cards and crews etc). I mentioned them earlier but i'll attach a couple of others things i've grabbed as well.
-Sonnia ME1 and the guild arsenal 1 cards
-Leviticus ME1 and outcast wave 2 cards
-Jacob Lynch Me2, Beckoners, Terror Tots
-McMouring Me2
I also ordered in a small cheap rulebook as I would like to read the fluff... kinda.. but i really dont care about ordering the book for it etc. I'm not really big on the fluff reading
I am however catching pokemon fever... and wanna catch em all...

Thats some good variety in starter crews. Though for the 2 metal crews, I'd suggest a few additions from their faction. The metal crews tend to come with less models.
