Got started on the venom painting today and I'm pretty happy so far!

It's really just the armor and base metal done. So it should look pretty different by the end of the weekend already.

Still left:
Metal shading
Lots of weathering
Black Eldary/tribaly nonesence
Pilot
Sails

Gunner is basically done at this point too but I need to see where we're at when it's it's done.

Thanks! The weather is apparently going to be terrible today so hooray inside stuff and more playing. Hopefully will have more to share later.

Ok so next step is the detail work for the venom so i can start weathering etc. once complete. I'm a better painter than a graphic artist so forgive the mock ups but which would look better?

Option 1

Option 2

Both will be painted to fit the model better than a flat image, option 2 particularly suffers from the flatness but hopefully you get the idea.

It should be smoother and more crisp (I hope) using a brush so we'll see but what do you think? I'll likely add a few more flourishes to the actual wings but they'd be smaller. I'd love some actual comments but i made a poll too for you shy lurkers out there!

I started painting the sails too but forgot a pic but the jist is that i'm trying out the idea of using 2-3 different flesh tones for the leather. I think it will contrast well with the sharpness of the overall vehicle. Mixing that Eldar clean with the horrifying messed up Kabalite/Coven look is what I'm going for.

A truly beautiful nightmare if i can pull it off...

Hey, Petey! Glad to see you around If your DE project is anything like your ogre project, we're all in for a treat

I think Option 1 fits the space much better than option 2. Thats my vote. And apparently, that's 100% of the votes so far

Keep up the great work!

Thanks man! It's good to have a larger project again.

Crazy story about my ogres though, they actually fell out of the trailer we were using on the highway during my recent move. I totally thought they were gone for good but a few days later a woman found them at some intersection and thought to bring them to a GW store (even though they were in a Reaper case). As it happens, it's the one I frequent and i had an old Eye of Terror campaign namecard (older than most kids playing now) so our manager let her leave it and i have them back now and there was no damage...

Two lessons learned:
1. Put you name on everything
2. Invest in Reaper cases

Oh man two updates in one day, i'm pumped. Are you pumped?!

Thanks again for those that responded to the poll! The option 1 took it by a narrow margin, not by percentages mind you but we're a small outfit yet. I seriously appreciate the feedback though and hope to keep you guys commenting and helping me out in the future, as you'll see, i'm very indecisive...

But things move fast in the webway and I was lucky enough to have the time to slap on that glyph already!

My problem now, and where I need you again, is that I had planned on mirroring the other side but looking at it and tons of DE stuff in the codex, they typically have an asymmetric look. I'm terrible and replicating backwards so i would love to skip the other side and paint a different design on the opposite wing but I want to know what people think would look better?

A top down shot for aid:

Also in the shot is what i was talking about with those sails, thats just basecoat but it gives you an idea of the differing tones i was thinking of.

Thanks again!

I would leave it as is, actually. Looks great! If you added more glyphs, it would be cluttered, imho.

We're getting there! Things have been slow progress wise but i got some done with the time I had last night. The new additions:

Sail Details:

Gunner (Doomsday crazy person)"

Gunner still needs a TON of work (I also see that MASSIVE mold line on the main gun not that im posting this....blarg), other than the face and a but of shading on the armor she's all basecoat but i wanted to get an idea on the colors. It's a lot of black but i think it's ok since the venom is way brighter than i had envisioned/expected. The sails I think turned out ok, if anything on future ones ill either need to increase the contrast a bit on the vehicle armor or darken the sail leather but i'm happy with it and need to keep moving if i ever want to finish this army. People that have seen my other blogs probably have gotten the (correct) impression that ill fixate then burn out... BUT NOT THIS TIME!

So i need to clean and highlight the blue armor sections on the sails then its weather/damage time. Somewhere in the the base will get done too! Thanks again for those that shared their opinions about the glyphs and such, its great feedback and I know will make this army ever cooler!

The Venom is done! I have some small things yet i want to do to the base but wanted some feedback before i submit final pics to our monthly painting challenge. Thanks again to Paradigm for stewarding it, it's so helpful to have a goal and accountability to complete stuff like this. Helps this pone and what seems like the next one are 100% in line with the projects i want to do to! Anyways here's more pics than you wanted for a stupid transport...

I'm so pleased with how this turned out though, it's hard to make yourself stop and move on though Seriously though as this was the first vehicle i've don't probably in like 5 years and trying tons of new stuff like pigments, weathering, airbrushing and candies, truly it could not have gone better I don't think. All the left really is dusting up the base to even out the jarring ironearth and adding some grass to the crater to age it up a bit.

Let me know what you think or if there is anything i left out!

I also realized im being a terrible host and blogger working on boring transports for over a month. Your patience will be repaid though in nightmares of fleshy horrifying wraithbone constructs

...and more warriors....but only a few.....I'M SORRY BUT I HAVE TO KEEP DOING THE BLAND STUFF TOO!

Onward and upwards to the next project! I've payed the troop and transport tax so less do something....interesting....

This is pretty much the catalyst that got me itching to reboot my DE, and if you read my hacky backstory I made up for the army you knew this was coming.

All the important bits clipped and a vitruvian Talos Lord appears!! Messing around with poses resulting a few weird looks from the wife and it begins to take shape!

Bit more sawing drilling and hacking in the Haemonculi fashion and we have a decent mockup!

I had always wanted to build a wraithlord since I started and my friend got one. They've always been gorgeous models but the ones now are just amazing in their simplicity. I have a ways to go yet obviously but there's no shortage of what I hope will hopefully be very unpleasant surprises too.

Hit me with the feedback!

Is that a green stuff rod you're using on the posing or am I seeing things? Your stuff is killer and very inspiring and motivating.

Don't feel crazy just yet! It's actually thicker floral wire, it has a green coating to it which comes off annoyingly but its cheaper than the brass stuff and easier to get so i use it for pinning. I'm running it through its entire leg structures given the spindly physique and ambitious pose. Save myself some tears later, I like trying to think of ways to make more precarious (flipping cool) poses more bombproof, I'm sure we've all had our hearts broken by our clumsy friend in the past. I had threaded the first section through and was about to bend to thread the shin but had the idea of making a puppet to see it i liked the pose lol.

It was hard to decide the pose since my original idea was I wanted these things looking fast, running full tilt and such, For this one though I thought i would try going for a slow creepy vibe, a coiled spring if you will. If it doesnt work he'll go in the back to hide or front to die....because i have to make many more.

On another note, if any of you guys read Misfire! on BoLS the great Lexington has sullied the strip with my ugly mug and a familiar transport i've been cramming down your throats lately lol. It was his final strip today which is a bummer but i'm lucky to still get his physical form on game nights!

Quick progress updates:

Helmet trim is on but needs to be smoothed to get the nice angles on it:

Lower body is bulked out a bit but still needs more shape and loads of detail. The legplates are the talos tail gun housings, not glued or anything just seeing how i like them compared to the previous options. Thoughts?

More pose shots. It really gives off a pyramid head vibe with the shoulder plates removed I think. One of both will go back on and get shaped to the Kabalite aesthetic once the arms are attached. Other arm will be flung out back in a just landed/balancing pose.

Since there is so much curing and layering involved here I may start a razorwing in there too. It will likely be fairly simple, there's only so much you can do to a supersonic jet that makes sense. I may try so dragging chains though or something simple and rely on just making it a clean paintjob.

The monthly painting challenge is heating up too and is super close! Definitely worth checking out if you haven't yet!

Thanks guys! I went ahead and picked up another Wraithlord yesterday to double down so to speak, with all the GS I figured it may be more efficient. Original plan was to make a Chronos out of it so I can try out a Dark Artisan but im not sure. All the ideas in my head for the Chronos seem dumb when i mock it up.

I want to make it a weird shadowy creature with an actual "wraith-y" vibe but still tie into the (eldar)wraith constructs. Im trying using the wraith arms on the actual Talos frame along with the back "racks" but I dunno.

I guess we'll see...as always thanks for the feedback everyone!

I'm not dead! Just busy lately, but the good work continues.

Finally started this guy after much procrastination:

Just a first muscle group pass, so lots of stuff to do/improve. Not sold entirely on the sails but given the ease of assembly I can wait until he's together more to decide.

Great to see this blog back up and running. Did you drill those holes in the visor? If so, that effectively resolves all of the usual negative space and ties it in nicely with the other DE minis.
