After playing mephy in a few games last weekend, my friends are complaining about him (again). Particularly after he killed a dread, vindicator and wraithlord in one game. I think he's better now than he was before, just different.


Mephy definitely has skills. I've been running him and a lvl 2 jump Libby in most of my lists. Not as Warlord mind, Ad Will is good on him and all but I really like the Veritas Vitea, 2 rolls on the strategic table is dope, however no access for an invul for the jump Libby is super lame. Also Meph is a big enough target as it is without making him my warlord to boot.

I've been running Meph with Div with Sternguard buffing them, and the jump lib with assault marines, I've been really pleased with Meth and the sternguard. Jump Libby with assault marines has been okay, best when you get unleash rage, I feel like it could be buffing a better unit, not sure what exactly as both DC and Sang Guard lack sgt equivalents for casting Quickening on, perhaps I can mitigate this with Dante with the SG, but he's not pained yet so we'll see.

I just had my game yesterday.

After reading the comments here I just went for a really unconventional list to take Dante down and try to deal with all the deep strike.

Fielded:
Abaddon - His warlord trait was really useful to thin down the BA, forgot they had hatred against him thou, which was no biggie since he only got into combat on turn 5 to finish a librarian termie and a squad of SS terminators. (sadly)

Lvl 3 Tz DP - Though a FMC would be a hard to bring down unit for the BA and with daemonology the plan was to spawn bloodletters to deal with the PA units, which worked but since we got purge the alien I gave him 2 extra KP once they were on the open after killing a squad of marines, just kept the primaris and rolled the last one on biomancy, got iron arm ans Tz's Doombolt, he died to turn 4 after landing since I needed to take out more units to get kill points, got shot by a stormraven and tacts with plasmas

Lvl 3 Nurgle Termie Sorcerer - Paid him to get blight grenades on the termies and nullify the angel's charge bonus, also was hoping on some endurance for abaddon and the nurgle termies, which I didn't get. Got hemorrage and life leech , traded it for smite and at least i had some extra AP2 shots to deal with termies and sanguinary guard, died to dante.

3 Nurgle Termies with combi-meltas on a LR with Abbadon and the Sorcerer, these guys didn't do much, blew one of the furioso dreads that deepstriked right infront of me. They were just wounds for abaddon's unit.

7 Plague marines with 2 plasmas on a rhino, these guys received the charge from the sanguinary guard with Dante and only lost 3 men, made 3 kills on the sanguinary as well and they just hit and run away never to engage them again.

10 cultists that died to the SS termies

10 nurgle marines on a rhino with meltas that took out the first furioso to drop, got killed by the 2nd one with his rending flamer

5 marines that were just to keep a bound army and acted as the 2nd troop for my CAD, cultists were the allied troop from the Black legion

1 Baledrake, took out a few marines on his runs through the table, never landed a pen or glancing on any rhino/drop pod/or even the stormraven

3 nurgle oblies in units of 1 these guys got killed on turn 1 and 2 due to meltas/plasmas on the deep strike

And that was pretty much it. The BA player fielded from what I remember

Dante and the sanguinary guard with a priest which really didn't do much, took out 1 oblie, 10 summoned bloodletters, and 3 plague marines

Mephiston in a squad of tactical marines on a drop pod, got charged by the DP, killed the whole unit in 2 turns with mephiston scoring 1 wound on him

3 tacticals on rhino with plasmas

Something around 10 death company with only 1 power fist, almost wiped my chaos spawns with these, even after thinning them with the heldrake, I had 4 nurgle spawns left vs the PF Death company, he killed 3 of them and left 1 with one wound left, made a TON of saves so I just couldn't wipe him.

A ML devastator that took out my rhinos and died to the heldrake on turn 3 (hammer & anvil deployment so it took me 2 turns to get into range

5-6 SS termies and the termie librarian, killed the cultists and the 5 man marine squad after deeps stike, Abaddon charged them after that and wiped them all

2 furioso dreads, rending flamer and meltas, one DS on turn 1 the 2nd on turn 2, the first killed all my autocannons and the second my nurgle marines which killed the first one

5 man scouts, died to the bloodletter without doing much.

1 Stormraven that killed my DP and tried to open the Land Raider, which failed

That was pretty much all, at the end of the game it was a tie, 13 kill points each due to him having first blood, nodoby had the "have one unit on the other side" points, all the battles were on the mid table. And I had left Abaddon with no wounds, my heldrake, 1 terminator, 3 plague marines and my land raider with 2 hull points, on the BA side was Dante with 1 wound left, the immortal PF Death company, 5 tacticals, the storm raven, 3 rhinos which I could never hurt and 1 drop pod (which I fired 6 lascannons at and only did 2 hullpoints)

So I guess it was a pretty even game even with an Abaddon sink point list, the Preferred Enemy marines thou helped a lot to kill the incoming units and those damn 1's to hit on meltas that i rolled
