If you dislike the idea of playing Imperium you can easily model your guardsmen and vehicles to look like Traitors. I would normally recommend the Renegades & Heretics list from IA:13, but it doesn't do mech very well. Sure you get cheaper chimeras and leman russes, but there is no option for a tank HQ and the loyalist versions are so much better for several reasons.
Blood Angels have options for good mech lists too, with Fast Razorbacks and Predators. They are also Battle Brothers with the guard, so you could run them together if you wish (as you mentioned you like the Predator model). Model them as traitors too if you prefer, that's all up to your own fluff.

Tau might even make a great mech army of you're just playing for funsies, Devilfish carrying FW's, Hammerheads leading up with fire support, Tetras for marker light support, pirhanas for whatever it is that they do, you'll have to use Forgeworld but could be a lot of fun actually. I think I'm gonna try it myself..

I am the kinda ork that takes his own washing machine apart, puts new bearings in it, then puts it back together, and it still works. |

Iron hands siege assault vanguard is decent. Draw back is the siege assault objective.
Wave serpent spam is a av13 wall.
Necrons can do a av13 wall.
Sisters in repressors can do another high av wall.
The IG have both the armored company and the main codex that can spam tanks pretty well.
Ors can get battle wagons and a bunch of boyz...
Black Templar can get obsec Land Raiders.
Pretty much any army can spam tanks

I think I've decided on AM/IG, using DKoK models for the few troops I'd run. Glad I saw those on FW before buying anything else, they're wonderful.

Great choice, DKoK are the coolest models ever designed IMO.

The IA: Vraks book has their rules as well if you fancy a peak at them. They have a USR similar to ATSKNF, but you can find that on their free PDF siege regiment list on Forge World. They're not awesome, but they're pretty cool.

Imperial Guard Landspeeder Pilot
On moon miranda.
|
It's variable, I've had FW orders show up on my door less than 48 hours after ordering, others take a week and a half.

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.
New Heavy Gear Log! Also...Grey Knights!
The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts. |
