I voted to stay with 8th edition. Reason i dont like direction game is going right now. I definatly dont like the rumors of 9th. I dont like the bubble world idea and think they flushed the fluff out the window which to me is really what warhammer fantasy has going for it...

I agree on earlier editions that fluff is better, and with artwork GW puts out on things more cartoon like less grimdark overall to me.

I also am on to other games. historicals are becoming more interesting and fun for me, however I do like the fluff of 40k and fanasy overall and that is what keeps me playing them. I wont upgrade 40k after 7th edition either and i wont rebase to 32 mm... which i have feeling 40k is next to have bubble universe... Finally, I wish they would have come out with a final bretonnian book... but well i got all the books i need the main book and the army books... i am not into the current supplements.. i can write my own senerios and fluff explaining warhammer end times that doesnt end up in bubble world rumors or silly hero hammer unbound stuff.

I'd invite you to click on the second link in my first post, too.

I wouldn't buy Mantic stock just yet. Their customer service is atrocious and is driving customers away just as quickly as their kickstarters are bringing them in. It should never under any circumstances take over 3 months to get something that your ordered off of their webstore page. Not only that but their models are not all that good of quality. There is a lot of hit and miss with them.

I tried to vote on this topic, then realized that I can't do that without having seen EITHER the new setting NOR the new rules.

Once 9th hits I'll make up my mind. Fluff is a big deal to me but its easy to rewrite. I'm hoping that the new setting has plenty of character but enough vagueries and sparseness to make easy to craft my own narratives in.

For the rules, I'm hoping for a system similar to what we have without some of the bs (mitigate deathstars, 6-dice-win strategies, and character wall / attack denial shenanigans). A skirmish intro game would be fantastic, since it's currently too hard to get new players into the game (500 point games are awful)

For all you guys know the first page of the new rule book it could start off with, "and that's why I don't tell stories when I'm drunk" then the dwarf passes out.

Will see what 9th is like as we only play with the unit sizes out of the box so may work.

Failing that we all have the 8th edition books so can fall back to that.

I clicked on the first link, as that was the closest thing that applied to me. I play most of the time at my local GW, so I would have to play 9th there if I wanted to play fantasy there as well.

My fiance and I were originally going to start with fantasy, but the store was starting a kill team event..which you could only do with 40k (and kill teams is a super easy/cheap way to start out the hobby and test out the waters). So we started 40k instead. This was Jan of last year. (I was drawn to 40k more initially, he was drawn to fantasy, we did kill teams first). After several months in the hobby I wanted to do fantasy as well, but I wanted to wait for the new rulebook for fantasy, after hearing they were due for a new rulebook.

Then they started dropping End Times, and everybody lost their minds.

At this point I have all the End Times books, and I don't have any real specific army...well, I have one box of gifted O&G boys and some squigs, but I would collect the squigs anyway, cause I love squigs.

(My fiance has Nagash and the morghasts, but he initially wanted to pick those up to paint). He kinda started off the collection of End Times books. I've really been drawn more to O&G and Ogres more than anything else, but they didn't get anything as far as End Times. So, for several months it's been do I wanted to be able to play with big fun new End Times models, or roll with something else, as per the rules?

At this point I have so much 40k stuff to finish I'm waiting for 9th edition to drop before I do anything with fantasy.

An interesting poll, but how can you make such a decision without even seeing the new rules when some of the responses require making a decision based on something that isn't even released (i.e. - the new ruleset).

I think it's too early to make a decision, though for myself i can make a series of qualified statements. note, this is my opinion, so unlike the other 6 threads on this matter, if your mileage varies, that's fine, but this is how i'm approaching it.

1) When the new rules come out, i'm going to take a look at them. If there is a mini rule book in the starter set i'll buy that set, and if the minis are not somethign i'm likely / able to use, i'll just sell them on the secondary market. I figure if its a 100 dollar set, i can probably offload the minis for 30-35 each side, and if i don't like the rules, probably 15-20 for that. For a possible loss of 25 bucks if everything is absolutely a lost cause, meh, i've spent more money on bigger gambles.

2) If i like said rules, i'll use them.

3) If i don't, my group has decided to continue with End Times 8th Ed. We are enjoying the hell out of End Times.

4) regarding fluff and continuity, we've sorta discussed, and it's a "play by ear" thing. I don't think any of us is going to let go completely of what came before, but we're willing to give the new continuum a go too.

Basically its all a giant wait and see kind of thing.

I'll likely give the new edition a try, or at least pay close attention to certain reviewers/posters that I trust to help inform me.

I haven't played much of 8th, but that hasn't stopped me from acquiring 3 or 4 armies recently, and I still continue to plug away on my 5th edition style Bretonnian Army.

If the new edition isn't to my liking, it would be no problem to ask my group to revert to 7th (I have all the army books, rules, and supplements like the General's Compendium), and no one I know is invested in a certain edition. Its a win-win as far as I'm concerned, though I'd rather see GW really support WHFB like they're doing for 40k (minus the crazy no holds barred unbound allies out the wazoo stuff) :-)

My vote:

Play new setting with the new rules
Play old setting with the old rules

EDIT: add the word 'with' to the above.

You know what, it's been a fun game before. Hero Hammer was fun, wasn't it? 6th ed was fun, 7th ed was fun, I love 8th ed, I'm willing to at least see what 9th ed has to offer at the very least. I haven't found too many rule sets GW has made that I hate, maybe a few army books here and there, but overall, I'm happy with WHFB, and I'm excited for a new edition. It might be a decent jumping on point for new players, which is always awesome.

Shadowrun is the best game ever. It's the only thing I have ever played in which I have jumped out of a shot out van with a chainsaw to cut a flying drone in half before leveling a building with ANFO assisted by a troll, a dwarf, an elf, and a wizard.
