The xipho thingi Looks More like a modern jet

Do not kill. Do not rape. Do not steal. These are principles which every man of every faith can embrace.
For if you do, one day you will look behind you and you will see us And on that day, you will reap it,
and we will send you to whatever god you wish.

Have you even seen many Modern jets? It looks very different than a modern jet. It looks much closer to the Colonial Viper (also VERY different than a modern jet).

At least GW's marine flyers tried to do something a bit different

I know what you mean about directly copying elements. Though having sketched and modelled a fair few ship designs myself, I can tell you that it is very difficult to come up with something that's truly 100% original. A considerable amount of the inspration for my designs comes from studying shapes of vehicle and vehicle parts from a big library I keep of my favourite existing designs. Though in this case I will admit, the similarites are perhaps a bit too glaring.

Well that's the thing really, there's only so many shapes you can really use because only certain shapes will fly, efficiently at least. So you are a bit limited. I really like the Xiphon, probably my favourite flyer, definitely my fave SM one.

I think its well established that GW doesn't really care about aerodynamics when it comes to Imperial vehicle design. Personally, I grew to like the front heavy designs for the Stormtalon and Stormraven, once I got what they were going for. Its clear that those two flyers were based off of helicopter designs more than jet/plane designs. Basically, if you view them as VTOL-engine equiped helicopters, they make a bit more sense in form and function. While its not everybody's cup of tea, at least it shows they are TRYING to be a little different.

I don't think sleek, "aerodynamic" jet fighter designs ( like Eldarish ) would even fit the Space Marine aesthetic. I sure can't imagine it looking good at all.
