I didn't get a chance to keep track of the other entrants as I was so busy with my head down painting to the last minute to come in on time. There are some great entries! I'll be over the moon if I get more than 1 vote.
Para - thank you so much for this, one thing I tend to struggle with are deadlines and enthusiasm tends to go very quickly. This has helped focus me and I've already started on Aprils entry this morning.
I'm not voting for myself as I want to promote others work and as we are limited to the 1 vote this time I'd like to mention those that came a close 2nd.
Honorable mention to:
Zambro - great dread there dude
OneManNoodles - that is a sweet captain
MangoChutney - the face is worthy of winning on its own
Januine - the deathwing look kick ass
Winterhound - soft spot for LotD and these are excellent
Reenon - I love DC and yours are truly great.
My vote however has gone to Melcavuk, yours works as a whole piece. There is no one thing that is holding the rest of the miniature together. I love the pose, the yellow is great and the base is top notch as well - great work, I really look forward to seeing future entries from you.
The same goes to everyone else that entered, I hope everyone has enjoyed the challenge as much as I did. I learnt a TON this past month, mainly freehand and to plan the project in advance so taking full advantage of it next time round.

Went for TazN's Blood Angel in the end; the stunning freehand and atmosphere of the mini were what eventually swung it!
In the spirit of needing more then one vote to cast (sorry again, really should have set that up! ), the others I was considering, in no particular order:
Melcavuk: the composition is great, and it takes serious skill to turn a Night Lord character into a very convincing Imperial Fist!
Winterhound: possibly the best LotD I've ever seen, just spot-on to the imagery!
Zambro and Barzam: I love Dreads, and those are fantastic! Great weathering too!
OMN: simply epic, from base model to finished piece!
Januine: Awesome colour work, a great palette and the base is somethin' else as far as tying them together goes!
And once again, a huge well done to all the participants! The variety on what could have been a rather samey theme is great, and the effort everyone has put in is inspiring!

Thanks TazN! Your BA and the freehand work is epic.
KingmanHighborn - Thank you!
There are so many awesome paint jobs. My top picks in no particular order:
Zambro: I really dig the weathering and the fact that you did multiple weapons. The check-pattern makes me think it was invaded by Orks for some reason
OneManNoodles: O.M.G. whaaaaat?!
Para: I am a huge fan of the non-baby blue Space Wolves, and the maroon really looks nice.
Januine: The diorama is fantastic, and the white looks soooo clean, you probably used magic to paint.
Winterhound: Your painting skills are on fire!
TheDraconicLord: The Katana (or probably more likely a tachi given its size) is sweet. I really like the subtle detail in the left hand and yin-yang on the chest.
TazN: Blood angel love + free hand + helmet in hand = pure win
There are so many more that are fantastic. Great job everyone!

If they'd both done 5 rounds, the one with the highest placing would go ahead). Again, any ties are just ties.
Perfect! That's the exact sort of thing that is fair and no-one can gripe at. Create a thread with the league table on and list of links to past competitions in the OP so people can reminisce at past entries and jobs a good 'en.
If you get headaches along the way, I love lists and spreadsheets so let me know.
Also, can everyone please go and vote for Paradigm's model, there is no way it deserves the same number of votes as me!!!!!

I just don't like marines without helmets, seems silly to me. I've included a human face for the next round, if that makes you feel better
Thanks for all your kind words.

commissarbob's sniper scout cloaks,
TazN's banner,
jah-joshua's libby (although I don't like the verdigris, except on the base).

Well, I've voted too. My vote goes for TazN's Blood Angel. As someone who's training and practicing his free-hand skills, that banner is just ... well, perfection, really. It's so beautiful and good looking. I also like his pose a lot, the simples idea of him holding his helmet, yeah, really like him.
I'd love to vote for more people like:
Zambro: the yellow looks very good, I'm not a huge fan of weathering but yours is subtle and looks pretty darn good. Not only that, the checkered panel really breaks the monotony. Very nicely done!
OneManNoodles: Yeah, I don't think I need to say anything. He's just, wow.
Captain Galenus: A very different from the usual chaplains. Like the "skull" helmet a lot and the Chain Axe conversion. He looks extremely brutal, truly like a Flesh Tearer.
MangoChutney: The guy is very cool looking and a color scheme different from the usual but that face, oh man, bravo!
Januine: Besides the DeathWing who look damn good, you make me wish I had patience to create terrain
Winterhoud: Yeah, you are a Legion of the Damned master.
Malcavuk: Yes, all of my yes for the whole mini diorama. He looks so badass on top of those stairs.
jah-joshua: Your painting is amazing and you are one big inspiration for me but nothing can be done to save that horrible miniature!
And I'd like to thank all who voted for me and all the kind words, I'm really thankful!
Congrats to all who participated, this was one heck of a success. See you next round, I guess!

@Winterhound: your LotD are getting way too little love...
he was my choice for the best of this round...
although Bobinator's LotD are still my favorite, Winterhound's are a close second...
the only thing that i think detracts from the actual minis themselves, is the size of the flames on the base...
a little smaller, and it would have been perfect...
they are also a bit "brown" to my eyes, for some reason...
i think a redder vibe, something a bit more "glowy", would have brought the eye up to the minis, instead of pulling it down and away...
all in all, a few good ideas that i will be stealing in the future...
@TazN: i like what you did with the banner, but the bionic head being painted all fleshtoned kills the whole mini for me...
i hope that isn't too harsh, but it draws my eye away from the banner every time...
all i can see are the two "levels" on the head...
had you painted the bionic half metal, i think you would be on to a winner...
you have definitely made me excited and inspired to do a 3rd Company version ...
@TheDraconicLord: at least Tiggy was for a commission...
so, while i may not get the votes, i do get the money ...
great job, everyone...
i am looking forward to the next round!!!
cheers

I'll certainly consider that; the reason I spoilered them was that the sheer volume of pics would make the page hell to view on slower internet connections. With about 40 entries and up to 4 pics each, there are close to 150 images in a single post, trying to load all that in one go would probably take quite a while. But anyone else feel free to weigh in, I am always open to suggestions on to improve this format!
Re: providing feedback/constructive criticism in this thread, go for it! Especially next month when you'll have more votes to cast, it would be great to just provide a line or two to whoever you voted for or who want to help improve! So long as it's constructive and polite, I'm sure many entrants would appreciate it!
@those with few/no votes, I hope you aren't put off! It was an oversight on my part to only allow one vote per voter, as people only pick the very best entries (understandably so). Next month you'll be able to cast as many votes as to feel you need to recognise all kinds of skill/originality/effort, so hopefully that'll get more people rewarded!

I'm still up for it, you only learn by trying! I will treasure my first vote, because I'll have earned it. I won't lie though, I would love to be that guy who has entered every contest and never got a vote - it's the sort of cool thing you want said about you when someone's introducing you on a game show.
