GW got out of the bitz buissiness, so they could sell you complete boxes. Bitz dealers, of any sort, allow you to buy just what you need/want without buying the rest of the box. GW wants us to buy full box sets and they are doing everything in thier power to make it so that it is the only option.

I can see that, but the one thing enabling the bits trade... GW's high kit prices. You dont see so many people bothering to stock the more affordable brands of miniatures for bits (because youd tend to actually just buy the model like GW want) kinda funny eh

~ one of the most popular and highly priced bits would prob be the devastators multi melta guy parts. Do you know any human beings dumb enough to buy 4 sets to make 1 squad of multi melta guys? I dont, and if i met one I'd try my best to educate them otherwise for their own sake.

GW has gotten into the "too big to fail" mentality & much like it does everyone, one day it will bite them in the ass. Hard. They don't produce the best rules across the board or the best minis across the board.
