Speaking of the combined arms stuff and Syntha, the synths are an interesting one rules wise. They get to activate fewer bases on orders than the other factions, but they suffer no ill effects from suppression.

Oddly, I actually really dig the squat, brutal aesthetic to them.

Although the wrong scale for me, I've always had a soft spot for Void and Urban. I might actually convince myself to dive into this one. The miniatures so far look really good!
My absolute best wishes to you on this game!

I wonder if this is held back a bit by the old aesthetic more than the nostalgia is helping.
It's 6mm.. There's an opportunity here to do something crazy and amazing with a small scale, big battle, crazy scifi game. Instead we get boxes on treads from the 80s.
That infantry is better, but those vehicles could still use a lot of work. Boxes with some angles, compared to the amazing 6mm work put out by places like GHQ?
Perhaps it's not the best idea to lean too heavily on the aesthetics of an IP that has failed twice already.
Cheers all. Kickstarter is scheduled for January 14th. One of the key things about this KS, and partly why it has taken so long, is that we've done all the development up front, so it's all ready to go when we launch. What we don't want is to have the Kickstarter paying for development, where often there are delays, maybe you bite off more than can chew, then the project doesn't get delivered on time, or worse it doesn't get delivered at all. With this one the KS is paying for production and shipping, not development.

@Pacific cheers fella, that's very nice of you to say so, and as Mark says Jan 14th's the day we kick off.
We're going to have some competitions too on the launch where you can win some original artwork by Wayne England.
All the best
John
Very good to hear ! Will make sure I save some Xmas money.
One more thing, although I've read that one design objective of the game will be to be able to play on a small tabletop, will it scale well? One of my best memories of Epic was getting a 12ft wide table and having literally entire companies of troops, tanks and titans duking it out. Perhaps getting ahead of myself a bit but will a similar thing be possible with Age of Tyrants?

Yes the game is scale-able Basic company action, one a side, is on a 4 foot square table (each company can be from 16 to 32 bases each, each base being 50mm square, Deep Cut studios will be providing 4 foot gaming mats for each of our environments for the KS, and Brigade Models will be providing terrain mixes too). As you increase the number of companies you effectively add on more 4 foot square areas.
You the player are the CnC, the off board commander and you can command any number of companies.
A 12 foot by 4 foot table will be no problem might hurt the bank a bit
Don't really have any more to add on the scaleability question than what John said. In the rulebook we recommend that for every 50 bases on the tabletop, you add a 4x4 section to give you space to deploy and manouevre.

The vehicles have to be in resin, they look fab BTW, will be posting pics of production casts soon.
Figures wise we don't plan to go to plastics at this stage, would actually require a redesign of the figures because, as they stand now, you couldn't mould them as there are too many under cuts
So the question is to do them either in metal (virtually pure tin to get them to cast) or in resin. Now resin will hold the detail much better, and would be my choice, however it is more expensive, approximately 80% more than metal.
So at this stage the plan is to print the masters, mould them, then cast resin masters and then make production moulds for metal casting. This way at least we cut down one metal pressing so hopefully they'll retain more detail, than if we'd mastered them in metal and then produced in metal.
Cheers

First review of production casts, this features the Junker Venator and the Viridian Dire Wolf, it is in Spanish but you can clearly see the miniatures.

That must be a hard compromise to reach! Obviously you want the best results possible, but its no good if the prices are so high that no-one will want to buy them.
Have to say those do look like really crisp sculpts, very promising if those are the production sculpts. That's one big-ass cannon on the top of the Junker vehicle !
