I did find cheaper builds, but it often involved bikes and those don't get transports. It seems to me that it's useless to take a unit that doesn't have a transport, when using these formations, because then you get no benefit.

If you want ONE demi company, that's fine. But if you're going for the two so you can have free transports, take units that take transports!

Yes but that is the only legal way to get the free razorbacks for under 1000 points

First this list is illegal in itc or anywhere they don't allow multiple of the same formation.
Second this list is a minimum 1045 with no weapons or upgrades. The aux with 10th company.
And then this list is hard countered by ap3 blasts.

Heck I would love to see this list with razorback spam vs a guard artillery line with MoO. Just spam multiple basilisk artillery platforms for 75pt str9ap3 large blasts. Spam a full squad of wyverns Because they love closely packed troops.
I've been playing ork and iG blobs of over 100 models with support so 50 space marines is hardly anything to cry about. While 3+ is good it's hardly amazing. With no invul, cover or fnp basic armour isn't that great anymore.

This formation is completely legal in the ITC. If you keep up with frontline gaming they have covered this on their youtube / twitch channels and will likely be putting an addendum into the ITC rulings very soon.

What are people's thoughts on the Razorback Infernus in IA: Volume II (the space marine one). Its listed as a distinct option at 65pts with a MM available to all squads that can take a normal Razor. Would you allow someone to field those razors for free, or would you disallow it, or consider them a +10pts upgrade over the base razor?

I don't see where you're getting the idea that more than 6 of the razorbacks/6 tactical squads are getting ObSec from?

This one pretty clearly states that ObSec is a command benefit in a Demi-Company.

Actually it's not very clear at all because the two demi companies become a different formation with its own unique special rules. It's not even clear if the battle company retains the rules from the demi company. Their intent may be clear, to you, but the way it's written is incredibly ambiguous.

I thought for each core you had to take 1+ Auxiliary. Would that not require another three Scout squads?

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

It's not 1+ for each Core, it's just 1+ per Gladius.

1-2 core 1+ aux. It's not for each you're just required to take 1+ in the gladius .
