Thanks for all the advice, guys!

@BC: that's a fair point, but as I'm doing this for the love of it as much as anything I can't see it really being an issue; if someone sends me a cool mini like that then any 'undercharging' is more than compensated by the fun of the painting itself!

@darkcloak: thanks for the advice, soup stories and all! I certainly see what you mean, and I'll be sure to keep it in mind. Thing is, though, I tend to 'burn out' on my own stuff after repeatedly doing the same stuff, so if I can get different stuff in every couple of weeks then that should actually help!

@TFP: Agreed on the photography. As for airbrushing/assembly line army painting, that's really not where I want to go with this. I can see how it would be lucrative, but it's not something I either want to or an able to do.

@Inspector: good spot! It's fixed now!

@Talys: cheers for checking that, I linked the wrong page!

The front page will be a blog of sorts, so will be updated with commission and personal work, along with reviews/unboxings/perhaps tutorials as well. It's sparse at the moment, but content will soon start to filter in.

Work looks good, photography has already been commented on, so general 'stay sane' advice:

If you want to keep it small scale be mindful to say no to jobs that are too big. £10 a figure is fine if you're doing one or two on a hobby basis. If you're having to rack up 20 at that rate it becomes a different game. It becomes actual work (and not immediately satisfying, but potentially repetitive work).

Figure out your optimum batch size (I work best with 5-10 for example) and do not book more than that at a time without being prepared to honour the commitment and/or any quote you give.

Don't work too cheap. It's very easy to lose track of expendables- if you're going to kill a £3 brush as part of a batch, budget for it. Absolutely buy an airbrush and compressor for priming and varnishing; the control, convenience and cost efficiency make it pretty much essential. If you combine with coloured primers (vallejo) and zenithal priming or base coating you also save time.

Sounds like a helluva cheap price to me! I'll be sending some enquiries on payday.

My pile of shame has reached the stage where I may have to contract some of it out...

I will review your painting when those Squats are done man. But it looks like you got what it takes.

It's certainly good enough for people to be interested for that price.

Though you need to estimate how you value your time.
For 10£ per mini. Can you get them to that standard without spending more than an hour on each?

A wage of 10£* per hour isn't that bad, but if you spend 2 hours per model than that's down to 5£ per hour. (plus you need to include any administrative work into the time consumed, communicating with clients, packaging models and posting them etc. Also you'll wear out your brushes, need to refill your paint and so on and so forth...)

* If you really want to do it by the book, there's taxes and so involved. You could probably hazard to skip that if you run a small scale operation; just be aware of what laws are applicable in your nation.

Thanks for all the feedback, guys! My first commission minis went out this morning to a very pleased client, and my next batch are currently on the desk, so this is certainly getting off the ground!

I've got a finished works thread in showcase now, and of course you can see the in progress stuff in my P&M blog! Thanks again for supporting me in doing this, while small it is something of a dream come true!
