Well said. BtGoA has yet to produce a single inspiring (or inspired) mini.

Debatable judging by Gates of Antares. Although all the design work is already done for Cybermen, Daleks, etc, and WLG do make nice miniatures (as opposed to the ones they buy from others).
So the GoA design team isn't inspired, but the miniature sculpts themselves are crisp and well detailed (at least the 4 boxes of figs I have for GoA are)

Heresy make a line of not dr who models that are much better than the crooked dice one.
The dream would be for this to use the rule set from the terminator game, and have plastic darlek / cybermen box sets. Add in the terminators and my mars attacks minis and maybe some of the alien vs predator stuff from prodos and i have a great Sci fi club game in the works.

Right, that's the point I was making. Bad designs, nice miniatures. Tamereth wrote:The dream would be for this to use the rule set from the terminator game
Seems unlikely. WLG are just the distributors for Terminator, which is by River Horse (although River Horse employee Dylan Owen did the layout for Blood on the Nile and Devil's Playground, as I discovered recently). Also, not sure how Terminator rules would apply to essentially non-violent Doctor Who games. I guess the dice step thing could be cool in a Doctor Who game, given it will probably be a fig-by-fig sort of game (like Terminator).

The great thing about a Doctor Who game is that it could conceivably cover any genre from Lovecraftian Horror to Sci-fi epic and anywhere in between. Not to mention you could get away with using damn near any miniatures as well. Since Warlord is doing this, I suspect plenty of cross-selling it with their historical lines.

Black tree Designs had the official (pre revamp) Dr Who gaming licence quite a few years back and released a boxed game along with a significant miniature line. The game is long oop but they are still selling off the old stock in the online store -

I should also note, I would buy the hell out of Cybermen. Especially if they use the modern robotic designs.

Yeah, I keep wondering what would you do in such a game. The modern show is driven by character arcs. Can that work as a miniatures game? It will be interesting to see details. I mean, it has to be some kind of cooperative game or else it's monsters versus monsters where the Doctor shows up as a kind of AI-controlled trouble maker.

So, any guesses on what this could be? Based on Bolt Action? Judge Dredd? Or are they going to license some other game system?

Chances are they'll do a new set of rules for this one. Bolt Action is very out of place and the Dredd rules belong to Mongoose Publishing or the like, so I wouldn't count on those being used either.

We'll see then, maybe the Terminator Genesis system? I'm having a hard time seeing the Bolt Action, or any of their other historical systems being applied to this. Unless it's a modified version of Bolt Action or Gates of Whatever.

I am not very aware of what Warlord do, do they mainly make miniatures in hard plastic, metal or resin?
I am very interested in seeing the sculpts for this.

They make plastic and metal figures as well as plastic and resin+metal vehicles for WW1 and WW2. Many of the metal figs (ancients through WW2) and resin+metal vehicles they sell are scultps they purchased from smaller companies. The stuff they have designed themselves is better quality sculpt-wise (barring the Gates of Antares concept designs, although as noted above the figs are still of could quality in terms of manufacturing). They also distribute rules and figs for other companies, such as some Perry plastics and ranges like Terminator for River Horse and Judge Dredd (and at some point Victory at Sea) for Mongoose. They also just announced they will be distributing Wargames Factory figs.

Like some others, I'm curious how the DW franchise will be adapted to a tabletop miniatures game. A straight up skirmish combat game seems a poor fit, but if they can incorporate some non-violent victory conditions it could end up being something new and different.
In any case, unless they are total rubish I'll be buying the miniatures at the very least. One set for me, and another for my nephew.

I wonder if in part the early announcement is intended to let companies with unofficial (and once official) minis/rules etc offload as much as their stock as possible before the Warlord game comes out and they start sending out polite letters asking them to stop
since in taking on a big licence you are usually obliged to enforce it as part and parcel of it
