I'm assuming that the high ranking of Space Marines is due to the Gladius Strike Force, and the free transports a Battle Company provides. If one made a list without the Gladius (but not necessarily without the datasheet formations), could the list still be competitive? Bonus points if the Skyhammer isn't involved.

When the only tool you have is a Skyhammer, every army begins to resemble a nail.

Rather than listing codices, which depending on your choices could be anywhere along the power spectrum, I've chosen to list competitive list blueprints in objective heavy settings like ITC events, since they're pretty widely known, and I have a lot of experience with them. The list will obviously be different in other metas and mission types. (For example, 5 WK eldar is a crazy good army that isn't allowed in ITC, among other places, and would probably wipe many of the lists here.)

1. Eldar scatbike spam CAD with wraithknight (and other varied support.) difficulty of play: low. Don't put things where they get hurt before you get to shoot once, and you're good.
2. War convocation. Difficulty of play: Very high. Very technical, easy to misplay.
3. Decurion (rec legion-d cult-harvest plus some options) difficulty of play: very low. It's very difficult to draw out more power from this army with high technical skill than you would with average skill.
4. Daemon FMC's with summons. Difficulty of play: very high. Knowing the best thing to summon, where to summon, and moving quick enough to fit in a tourney time limit is expert level play. If you are a near perfect general, this list could easily go up in rank from here.
5. Battle company marines. Difficulty of play: moderate
6. Flyrant spam. Difficulty of play: moderate
7. Skitarii with blood angel taxi service, perhaps alongside skyhammer. Difficulty of play: moderate.

As for the power spread, I think going from 1-6 there's hardly any decrease in power. With a slight variance of luck and skill, I could believe that any of them could beat the others in a tight game.
Around spot 7 is where I think power starts dropping to tier 2 list blueprints. Right after skitarii would probably be pure tau and cent stars etc. they can still win, but I personally think they're going into matches with the top 6 with a moderate disadvantage.

Because if it was any shorter every list would look the exact fething same.

1- eldar
2-necrons
3- mechanicus
4- space marines
5-daemons
6-tyranids
7-knights

OP, grey knights and dark eldar don't deserve to be there, they are just both lacking, and very much rock armies, and really dark eldar are just, ugh.

As the author of the ToF stats articles, I can say top six are listed in my most recent article:

1.) Knights
2.) Eldar
3.) Necrons
4.) Daemons
5.) Tau
6.) tyranids

Of that list, the top five are the only armies winning more games than they're losing in tournaments. That said, Skitarii, Daemonkin, and Cult Mechanicus don't have enough games recorded yet to read into the stats. This also doesn't take into account performance only after a new book, which may be part of what weighs down Space Marines and Dark Angels overall.

NOVA, in just over a week, should be a good indicator of the power levels of armies as a current snap shot.

The graph you keep posting here is really like REALY old. It was way before new Eldar, Space Marines, Dark Angels and even Imperial Knights codecies were relised. It came our right after Skitarii Codex came out, so now it is not relevant.

Dark Angels ~ 7350pts (about 5800 painted);
Ultramarines ~ 4700pts (about 2700 painted);
Imperial Knights ~ 1300pts (about 800 painted);
Skitarii and Mechanicum ~ 2000pts (about 1800 painted);
Assassins ~ 850pts;
Tyranids ~ 2000pts

I mean honestly, the last two are a toss up. GK, SW, Nids, Orks, Tau and DA show up with about equal frequency in tourney play. And they've all got 1/2 builds.

Why is it so vital to you that Orks are woefully underpowered? Seems like you came into a thread, posted off-topic, then called someone out for posting on-topic...

Because, whenever a topic is made listening strong armies or codex's or anything along those lines, nobody posts orks and yet whenever I make a topic about ways to improve orks, you and about 2-3 others jump in and say how awesome Orks are and how they are top tier. I waited for this topic to go almost a whole page before posting that nobody had yet to mention Orks. The second I did you jumped in to post that Orks are top tier .

Why do you feel it so vital to point out that Orks are not under powered? It seems like you came into this thread to specifically post something against my point of view

I actually don't know if thats true, since I don't play SoB. I do know that my orks lose to SoB fairly often, but thats because SoB are THE BEST army to face a Horde army or an army that relies on Cover saves . SO MANY FLAMERS

I will say one thing, win or lose, a game against orks is always fun.

Oh god my friend XD GK and Dark Eldar should be out of that list XD If you play a power list, put Tyranids ( formations and CAD that let you use a lot of flyrants ) and Tau ( marker lights are just..... )

What was that about Grey Knights not deserving to be up there?

Don't know about tournaments, but the way I see from a lot of casual play is:

1) Necrons
2) Necrons
3) Necrons
4) Necrons
5) Necrons
6) Tyranids
7) Grey Knights/Space Marines

I Know I maybe get punished for this comment, but tbh, that is the reality.

To put this into perspective, every time I've fought SoB, it's been one of the most brutal games I've played as Necrons. They can kill even my infantry with relative ease, so the most casualties I've suffered has been against them (though I have yet to actually lose to them). Add in the Promethium Pipeline, and uuuugggghhhhhh.

True that, last night we played a 2v1 game against SoB and my ork ally brought a green tide. Besides my knight exploding amongst the horde and taking out 22 orks with it the sisters managed to kill about 90% of the tide by turn 4.
