If you're rich enough to travel, you belong to a class of people that gets most things extremely "on the house".

Don't know if this is much of an answer as its 30k not 40k. In [Liar's Due] - a short story in [Age of Darkness], one of the Horus Herasy novels one of the characters covers a debt with [a single gold throne]. Its worth a mention as the character has just arrived on the planet and travelling alone, thus he has already arrived with an accepted form of currency and is drinking in a bar. So He's moneys 'good' on this world and as its called a throne, to me a currency being called a throne sounds broader than something that's only used in one area of the galaxy- that said the story is set just after the battle between Horus and the emperor.
That said the old Necromunda sourcebook (40k ) mentions both a guild price for hostages and also -the answer you didn't want! - credits (!!!!) as the price for items.

Fury. Anger. Rage : More anger. A tad bit more rage. Then a dallop of fury.

If I remember correctly, those are, at least; 'guild' credits, and hence a local currency not used outside of Necromunda (or possibly even hive Primus). The 'Guild' being a local organisation. It possible even that they aren't used regularly by Necromundians outside of the underhive even.

Either that or I guess credits or bits or something like that.
All hail the Credit, obligatory currency of sci-fi (and those in the media industry).

... credits are also some 80% of the US economy. After all, we call them "credit cards" not "dollar cards".

Thrones or gelt depending on the source but most traders worth something could not care less about them. Those currencies are for those who order a discount lasgun instead of tank divisions, starships and promethium mining facilities.
