Wraithblades are assault units. Assault units suffer bad. That's all there is to it honestly.
And because there was a comparison between Wraithblades and carnifexen (dunno why tbh).
Wraithblades are 30 pts per wound, same as the naked carnifex. Dunno if the wraithblades have to pay points to upgrade to an axe and shield, I would assume they don't.
So 4 wraithblades are equal cost as a naked carnifex. They are both 4 wounds, T6, 3+ save, 4 basic attacks, ap2.
Carnifex has HoW, str 9 and does not lose functionality as it takes wounds.
Wraithblades have double the attacks on the charge, 8 vs 5+ d3 from HoW so basically the Wraithblades come ahead even if a fex rolls 5-6 for the HoW (they're ap-), they get 4++ save, higher Ws, higher initiative (or are the axes unwieldy?).
So you get to choose between having high strength or having a 4++, higher Ws and Initiative mostly. Wraithblades are just fine the way they are. It's the shooting stuff that are playing in a whole different level that makes anything assaulty look bad.
