Thanks Kestral. I think the use of oils, like everything else, comes down to what you're most comfortable with. For me, as an illustrator and gallery painter for my "real job", the oils are just more comfortable for me to work with. I tend to paint very fast once I'm actually painting, so I hate waiting on layers to dry to try and achieve a full blend, also the acrylics tend to shine a lot, which throws me off. So for me the oils are much easier, plus I've got all kinds of drying agents around anyway so there isn't really the hassle of me having to figure out which agents to use to speed or reduce drying. The learning curve with oils would be annoying for someone not already used to them for sure.

Also, I'm a big fan of sort of darker, less cartoony paint jobs, by which I mean colors that look like GW paints them. I understand they have their style or whatever, but I'd rather my miniatures look like the paintings in their books than the pictures of miniatures their studio paints if that makes sense.

Anyway, back to finishing the Epic Scale, fully resculpted and dynamically posed Phantom Titan. Doing the freehands today so hopefully the damn thing will be finished tonight and I can post it up. Lots of work as the client wants it to look like a FW Phantom and not the old Epic one. Taking me a lot longer than I had hoped but it's worth it so far.

Thanks for hanging out.

So I've got some more stuff up on Ebay now, including the painting below. Here's the link to the OOP metal Death Guard guy I posted here a few days ago. http://www.ebay.com/itm/40k-Pro-Painted-OOP-Metal-Death-Guard-Nurgle-Rogue-Trader-Warhammer-Citadel-/281839546046?hash=item419ef22ebe:g:KRIAAOSwo6lWLjsE

So hit up the store and buy some cool gak for your table top or some art for your game room. Also taking commission work for miniature builds as well as art, so get your Christmas shopping done now!!

Thanks as always.

Been a while. I've been busy as hell with art commissions and the new novel. Finally working on some new stuff. I've had a Vermin Lord laying around a while, and since nobody really seems interested in buying one unpainted, I rebuilt my air compressor and got on it last night. Also, finished an Epic scale Phantom Titan that looks like the Forgeworld Phantom Titan. After much putty and pinning it came out great...then got broken in shipping. Looks like a fething gorilla jumped on the box when the client sent me pictures....gotta be kidding me. Oh well as it turns out it was an easy re glue for him. Hoping to get some pictures of it rampaging across his local gaming table soon, so I'll throw pics up here when I get them.

In other news, I've had a lot of folks here locally as well as through dakka asking me if I do commission work. Yes, I do. But it has to be a cool idea, a cool conversion, something you'd love to have but don't think can be done. If you just want your marines painted like they look on the box, there are plenty of great painters out there that already do that, so spend your money on them. If you want heavy conversions, unique builds, originally themed armies...well then hit me up. I put up a new site...scrapyardminis.blogspot.com with a bunch of pictures of older work and I'll be updating it often. Some of the stuff has been posted here, but a lot more pictures are on the site.

So stay tuned and get something original done. It is, after all, a game of imagination so why do what they say you should with your minis...

So my computer decided to stop working, and I took on some Star Wars art projects, but now the computer is back, the posters are done, and I painted up a squad of Night Lords, along with a custom one off hover Predator tank. I figure the Lords of Darkness would want their tanks fast, lean and relatively quite, so it only gets the top cannon for weight issues, and there are accounts that before and during the Heresy, the Imperium was working on hover tanks. Most notably is the painting of the Custodes hover rhino thing. Plus hover tanks are just cool. The guys all got some freehand lightning, and the tank got some cool freehand badassery as well. So yeah, here you go.

For those of you that have been contacting me through the Dakka message for commission work, I apologize to you for not responding lately, but without the computer I haven't really been logging on here. I am back, and I will definitely give you some breaks on work since you've probably thought I was blowing you off. Thanks again for checking this all out.

Cool to see you back, that hoover predator is really nicely built and executed, definitely fitting of a night lord raptor attack.
Great looking squad too !

Thanks Kernelterror, I like the Hoover hahaha.

Forgot to upload some action shots of the one off Epic scale Phantom Titan I constructed and painted for a fellow Dakka warlord who goes by the handle Eyebuck. He sent me some pics of the Titan tearing some enemies up in a recent game, so here you go. Resculpted pretty much everything from the annoyingly fragile Wraithlord kit to make her. But whatever she's a bad bitch and Eyebuck is one happy general so everybody wins in the end. The way it should be with any commission work.

This is just the plastic kit and putty. Arms are magnetized so she can be posed and have different weapon options also. No decals or transfers, all freehand brushwork.
