How do you budget your gaming?
I have a fixed budget per month.
I buy infrequently, but have a limit I will not exceed.
What I want I buy.
My S/O keeps me in check.
I have no budget, and acquire new models through barter or the sale of old models.

What kind of Capital? Coul starting off selling miniatures I ni longer use count.

That's certainly one way to start.

Keep in mind that to get 'deals' you need to outlay $500-1000 at a time for new lots. So you'd want to build up that amount of capital to start.

I do something similar to Pretre and I generally have between $500 and $1k in my paypal for available purchases. If it drops below $500 then it's for strictly purchasing to build back up.

Heh. Yep, although I let myself dip under occasionally but always get back up.

If you want to make enough money to cover other stuff, yeah.

Think of it this way, if you make 50% profit on your sales:
- You spend $100 to get a lot of 40k; you make $150 after all sales. You have $50 to play with. Meh.
- You spend $500 to get a lot of 40k; you make $750 after all sales. You have $250 to play with. Yay.
- You spend $1000 to get a lot of 40k; you make $1500 after all sales. You have $500 to play with. Okay, now we're talking.

You certainly can work your way up. Sell some of your spare stuff. Buy some more stuff. Sell that. Rinse repeat.

Just keep in mind it also requires a fair knowledge of the market to know what is worth buying and what isn't.

I have a budget and I don't go over it.

It comes from working a low-paying job for years and growing up not having much. If I wanted something, I had to save up for it.

Even now, when I have a credit card and a wife that lets me indulge, those habits built up over 20ish years are hard to break.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

I don't have a budget per se, I've not bought anything GW or a couple of years now, but I have spent on Malifaux and Infinity.
I keep things at what I like to think as sensible levels.
Currently I've got a few Kickstarter wargames incoming, I recently received AVP, which I'm currently assembling/painting, then I'll be waiting for Dungeon Saga and Maelstrom's Edge.
As I get older I get hit by the gamers paradox.
When I was young, I had time but no money.
Now I'm older I have money but no time.

If the thought of something makes me giggle for longer than 15 seconds, I am to assume that I am not allowed to do it.

Whatever, whenever. I'm good at buying nothing for 4-5 months whilst saving money and then getting a bunch of stuff in a single hit.

I now follow a similar pattern.

I used to spend more (and more often), but I've recently been painting my existing stuff. Only recent purchases include replacement paints, codecies, and bases. Feels good playing with more painted gak.

It's all about buying the right things at the right price and finding the right buyer.

Not something I have time for, but kudos to those that do!

It is pretty easy, if you know the market and can do the rest. Either way...

Yeah me too.

My only limitation is the space I have to store it. As a rule I don't sell miniatures that I've painted, use or will use in the foreseeable future unless I need the shelf space.

The only hobby related budgeting I'm doing is for a bigger house!

I hear you.

I get gak from my wife because I will save up money for something, go to the store/online to buy it, look at it closely, look at the money in my hand and end up walking away and never buying what I had saved up for because I have decided it wasn't worth it anymore.

I trade a lot for what I want, or wait for birthday or Christmas for some items from friends or the wife. Occasionally I win a local painting contest and get store credit which usually goes for more paint or a model. My budget for actual gaming is around $25 a month, which is used on more paint.
