That's how Infinity is played as well. Each unit has an amount of SWC so you can't field a unit of nothing but heavy weapon guys.

It's called a thick skin. The Jersey born have it innately.

The basic idea of codexes is that there are limitations built into each book that are compensated internally by points costs, availability and effectiveness of different units.

The Allies system as you have pointed out destroys this concept.

My view and many other people's, expressed at the time that Allies were introduced, is that Allies was a serious mistake and it would be better to change the rules back and get rid of the whole concept.
I'd be on this in a heartbeat.

I pine for the days of single-FoC, no allies armies

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.

New Heavy Gear Log! Also...Grey Knights!
The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

In a way I do too, but with mini codex's like mechanicus, skitarii, harlequins, Imperial knights, assassins, inquisition, etc... It can't really revert back to a no allies system without ruining these armies. At this point it looks like allies are here to stay, might as well look at ways of balancing them as opposed to getting rid of them all together. Of course you can still dream, but I think it's safe to say pandora's box can never be shut now that it's open.

Yeah balancing won't work ever. It will always be better to run a good core army with good ally, then try to put good ally in to an army with a weak codex. That is even more a problem when some armies are worse with ally then the good mono armies. And suddenly to play IG you have to play some sort of crazy FW, quadruple CAD with main codex being actualy inquisition. And that is stupid, when other people are perfectly fine with playing their army out of a single codex.
