I actually hate the GW aesthetic; both new and old. Chaos ogres were okay, as they're chaos, but gw's regular ogres look pretty pants. Mantic's ogres win hands down.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

I'm the opposite. I loathe the majority of the Mantic Ogre models and love the GW aesthetic for the Ogres. Granted I love the more Mongolian feel. I also like Shieldwolf's Ogres too that are more mercenary style from the now destroyed Empire. I like the idea of big, heavy ogres. Like sumo. Deceptively swift for something so large and incredibly strong.

There is not this idea.

I haven't actually got to see any mantic ogres in person yet. Just looking, I think I like both. If there's one thing that seems more my speed about the mantic guys, it's the fact that they don't have the big "gut plate" or whatever thing. Never did care for that.

A moderately sized 'gut plate' does not bother me - it serves much the same purpose as a placart.

You do not want to get stabbed in the gut - once the intestines are penetrated then death becomes inevitable without modern medicine. (And with it, peritonitis is dicey.) Look up the Viking 'onion test'.

Some of the ones on GW figures, on the other hand... look bloody hindering awkward.

Yeah, that's more or less what I was getting at. The ones they have are big and cumbersome and not really much fun to paint (for me, at least).

Sad thing is, that I am pretty sure that GW made them big to make them 'more' fun to paint.

Yippee.

I like the aesthetic on the older ogres a good deal more.

I'm kind of glad that this has stopped being an argument and turned into a showcase of neat ogre figures.

Kinda my point. It's fine to prefer one line over the other, or dislike a sculptor's work or even most of a companies' line, but there's certainly no need to piss on other people's preferences or try to be an internet badass.

Lots of variety out there for those who want to look. Many of them are a lot cheaper than the OK stuff as well!

Yeah, those second guys are neat. And the first one looks like he should be holding a guitar in that pose, which is neat in its own way

Until I read that, I did not see it.

Now, I cannot unsee it.

I do rather like that lower row of ogres as well.
