Or just go ahead and use thread tape like 99.99 percent of all other people because it seals the threads (because it provides a tighter mechanical seal by getting the threads tighter, or by filling in the deformities of the threads .... does it really matter if it is SEALED?!?)
It does matter. What he's doing is continuing to spread a misconception, which is something I'm trying to prevent because it helps everyone.
Well, fine, if you really want to get into it -- it's not a misconception. I mean, are DuPont, 3M and ElectroTape all wrong in the product descriptions and datasheets of their respective PTFE tapes?
3M: "This fluorocarbon resin film tape designed to provide a leak-resistance seal when used as a pipe thread sealant. "
DuPont: "These products are widely used as conformable, high-performance sealing materials"
I mean, pretty much every manufacturer of PTFE tape says that their product is used to seal pipes. And pretty much everyone that sells it (like Home Depot or Ace Hardware) says the same thing.
