Yeah I think your right on the combi plasma. Will still bring the plasma gun as the special but if I'm only getting one shot on the combi gun I might as well make it a combi flamer. At least that way that one shot although being weaker and less ap its at least going to hit multiple models with the 1 shot you get on a combi plus always nice when firing in to cover

I like combi-melta/melta because two melta shots have a very solid chance of suppressing a vehicle. A single melta does not. I only need one shot, because the next turn I'm assaulting it.

I was looking at dual melta but I want to leave my anti tank duties to dedicated anti tank units so that's why I'm running plasma and combi flamer I think. If my tactical squad was going in a drop pod then I would probably go melta yeah but my tactical squad isn't and the poor range on melta doesn't help either

I never bother with any thing on the sergeant other than a combi weapon. Tactical squads are terrible in close combat and no amount of upgrades to the sergeant is going to change that.

There are times where I get a tac squad in a long drawn-out slap fest. Where if I had ponied up the points for a power weapon I could have cut my way out in time to impact the rest of the game.

Those times don’t come up nearly enough for me to ever include such an upgrade, but they do come up.

It's a shame because after 5th all my power fist sergeants got reassigned to guard the shelf.

If I'm concentrating fire on killing troops what would compliment my combi flamer better, grav or plasma on my tacticals?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Plasma has a better range when moving or stationary

A mixture really so that's why I'm not sure. I need the best at being most universal. I'm thinking plasma

The grav cannon is the rebirth of the tactical squad. It makes them worth taking again.

And the sergeant. Worth upgrading?

If he has a pistol and power weapon, then yes for me since he is geared more towards a bit of fighting you want that extra attack. If he has a combi-weapon and just being used as an extra gun, then there isn't much point.

For me personally, I prefer a 5 man squad with special weapon and combi-weapon Sgt in a Razorback as I prefer my heavy weapons being fired from vehicles not infantry. For Blood Angels that is.

Even more true of you are running Salamanders. As it is a character, you can upgrade one weapon to Master-crafted, this makes even the basic bolter more reliable

Yes, but if the slap fight is taking a better shooting unit out of the mix, that is a pretty good strategy.

Unless it's a GC+A, then not really, no.

There are no slap-fights with GCs, they just stomp you to death. But locking down a blob so my other good stuff can run around unimpeded is a small price to pay.

Well I'm going to run Raven guard chapter tactics and want quite a mobile army so I think I'm going to leave the heavy weapon out of the tactical squad and run it with a plasma gun and combi plasma on the sergeant. What are your opinions on plasma? A lot of people don't like it. I know those roll of a 1 can be frustrating but you still can get your armour save and compared to melta they still have a good range?

I am a huge fan of plasma, it is awesome. Good strength and AP to take down infantry and also low armoured vehicles. The standard plasmagun is my favourite special weapon that tacticals can take as it is a very good all rounder.
