Would be nice to have fearless or whatever, but have heard that this isn't a thing in 30k before.

Which books, supplements, and so forth would I need to look at to find Imperial cults, mutant chaos armies, or whatever else could be a good approximation?

Larger points were the only 40k games I bothered with, so I'll keep in mind the hard and fast rule for transferring them over.

It's the Imperail Milita And Warp Cult List, it is found in Book 5. But FW has already showed off a preview for the next Red Book witch contains Solar Aux, IM&WC and Knight House Holds. So I sujest sitting tight for that.

Actually it is possible. The Cult Horde provenance gives you Zealot - which is awesome - at a cost of turning your army's infantry purely into melee machines who must charge whenever they have the option to* and can only fire snap shots.

Not as crippling as it might be - you can use tanks to pick up the firepower - but it does leave you without units you can trust to sit still safely on objectives once you've taken them.

* A lot worse than the rule used to be - in 3rd/4th edition this was "why wouldn't I?" - now, this means eating unnecessary turns of overwatch fire because you've been forced to declare 11-12" charges you knew were never going to succeed.

You think there will be as many tweeks and revisions as the Mechanicum book had?

Well, I would hope they would fix all the errors and typos atleast. I kinda expect they will focus more on adding stuff for the Solar Auxillia and Knights when it comes to Tweeks/Revisions/Additions. FW dosen't sell any models specific for the milita/cult army. It's more just for porting existing IG armies over to 30k, plus a wink to people who dip into 3rd party models. So their isn't probably isn't much incentive for them to add much to the list besides fixing the mistakes.

My personal wish list is that they would add valks to the army list.

Why Valkaries? Just 'cause their actually a decent air transport, or because fluff? also, for Militia or Auxilia?

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field.

For the Militia, tho they would be amazing in the Auxilia list TBH. (Probly almost to the point of OP since you could put Storm and Flamer Squads inside them plus a commander.) Mostly I'd like to see them because they are cool models. It's also nice to have more plastic options in the army list that I can buy from my FLGS. Like I said pure wishlist.

(That and as far as I'm aware they should be around in 30k.)

I think there should be more fast attack choices in general... More flyers would be good, but I think is too indicative of Imperial Guard in 40k... The narrative in general is that in this era Militia are less refined and less mass produced for war. The Militia forces all came to war practically with whatever their worlds had lying around. That said I think just like Ogyrn Brutes the rules should reflect a myriad of equipment that reflect available models but leave open the possibility they are represented with something else. I would have like to have seen the Avenger in the list.

I also think things like the Centaur and Tauros would have been appropriate for representing the myriad of smaller vehicles these different militias would have brought along. Those allow Militia some representative choice (that potentially sell models) while still contrasting with their 40k counterparts.

I like to flip through my old copy of Rogue Trader and look at the art. There is such a diversity of vehicles in it and I think it would have been exciting to have rules to represent some of those. Everything from the giant eight wheeled vehicles to two seat bigger sentinels and Imperial army land speeders.

When i looked through the list i was disappointed that you couldn't get heavy mortars.

Rough Riders or some equivalent are almost begging to be put into the Militia list. A poorly equipped militia force using horse-mounted cavalry fits perfectly.
