To the OP, this is how NOVA views this rule. Slightly toned down but effective nonetheless :

Coordinated Firepower and Interaction with Unit-Wide Buffs - The Signature Systems and similar unit wide effects transfer via the coordinated fire rule. Unit Wide effects apply to all contributing units, however only models, or weapons in the case of Gargantuan Creatures, firing at the target of the coordinated firepower attack gain the effect of applicable buffs through coordinated firepower. As such, contributing units that make use of Target Locks or GC Split Fire rules do not gain the buffs on those shots that don’t go at the primary target.

Important to call out that this is not how the rules are written, but is instead a tournament house rule.

Of note I do not play this formation....however I have read the rules and I believe NOVA got it right. ITC was scared it would be bad for Death Stars so they manipulated the voting process by not showing both sides of the discussion. The ITC FAQ is a group of house rules and not a true FAQ. They came down hard with the nerf bat on the new Tau for some reason and pretty much invalidated most of the units except the Stormsurge...but hey...Frankie likes his Stormsurge so don't expect that to get nerfed. If I was playing against someone with CF then I would have them play it like NOVA FAQed it.

I do what the voices in my wifes head say...

Nova got it wrong. Cf applies to the unit when it fires; it places no requirements, whatsoever, on individual models within the unit.

Creative and laughable reasoning.

Ok guys clearly the OP wasn't trying to stir up a can of worms. Just was asking the same honest question that many of us had when we first read it.

It's pretty clear at this point that there isn't going to be a consensus reached and that any given tournament can and will interpret it differently.

TBH that is a big reason why I moved away from that detachment (and TBH I love crisis suits so I have been having a great time with obsec crisis from FSE CAD)

HIWPI is basically the nova interpretation, for whatever that's worth.

Not creative since that IS how it is written. The laughing may come from believing something so powerful cannot be real, but forgets this is the same group that gives Marines stock Transports for free to a Detachment that is already 12 units of Objective Secured.

Are you a Wolf, a Sheep, or a Hound?

Fabulous argument. Amazing effort there at the dissection of the actual rules presented.

Oh wait. Nope. You are aware of the difference between unit and model, correct?
