Varying metal, but I have a few moments from when I used to play
40k.
Probably the most metal:
Large early 5th edition
Apoc game of "bring what you have up to X points" with a cap of I think 1000. Of course the Loyalist side is far better equipped and has Guard,
SM, and Tau, and the other side consists of a few scattered Chaos things. I brought my dual
LC terminator lord, and a beefed up squad of Terminators, and was on the far end of the board. In the first few turns I lost a few Terminators slogging towards the Loyalists. Their Baneblade didn't managed to take out any
IIRC, most of them went down to massed fire. Chainfist guy can-opened a Godhammer, and that drew the attention of the Loyalist players. In what could only be described as complete favour of the Dark Gods, my Terminator Lord took on assault
SM, bore the brunt of nearly the entire Loyalist side shooting at him over several turns, murdered a Death-Cult assassin, and chased off a Tau Commander, surviving as the only model left on our team until time was called. With the Chaos codex being what it has been, and my interest in
40k waning until emptying completely around mid-6th, I've never used him again.
In early 6th one of my Crypteks Lance-sniped several characters over several games, including Ahriman.
Then only in 5th:
A squad of Fire Warriors beat up a Lictor in close combat.
A Crisis Suit watched his buddy get multi-melta'd to death by a Throne of Judgement, so went over and held it up in combat for several turns, even managing to wound it, whilst I mopped up.
A Broadside was charged by a Scout squad with a Power Sword Sergeant who made the fatal mistake of wounding it, pissing it off and causing him to punch two scouts in the face with his missile systems and chase them off, shaking his missile systems at them and yelling "YOU KIDS GET OFF MY LAWN!".
My Tau were consistently better in melee than shooting.
