I might split it with a friend, with him taking the genestealer cult models, and me taking the Deathwatch models. We can get together to play the game, and we each have a nice set of models for our 40k armies.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700
Check out my P&M Blogs: ZergSmasher's P&M Blog | Imperial Knights blog | Board Games blog | Total models painted in 2024: 40 | Total models painted in 2025: 25 | Current main painting project: Tomb Kings

It is very tempting for me. Though I look at it and just see conversions for chaos everywhere

I find it hokey there's a member from every Founding Chapter and then..... a Blood Raven, the THQ SM poster boy. Isn't it up in the air who their Founding Chapter is? How about a Mentor, Silver Skull, Rampager? Something a little more exotic?

Genestealer cult minis are ace though, but don't plan on getting it any time soon.

And Cassius was way cooler when he was missing half his face.

I have ordered it for a number of reasons.

I loved my 2nd Ed GSC army. The new models for them are some of GW'S best of recent times.

I really want to try using them in 40k.

I have a couple of mates who are interested in gaming but not necessarily wargaming. This looks sufficiently board game like for them to enjoy.

As to the price. If I hadn't been able to get it at a discount then I probably would have waited until the end of the year and Xmas/birthday.

Eighty quid isn't cheap but I have seen Lego kits costing more than that.

Definitely picking up a box. Gorgeous sculpts, cheap as chips and what looks like a pretty decent boardgame incl to boot (though there's defitely gonna be a LoS house rule getting implemented) Really looking forward to this one. Am gonna hang on a bit though as I've promised myself to clear some of my painting backlog before I get another 50 figs in!!

I bought a Cassius off eBay. Might get a few boxes later to have a genestealer cult army.

Or just buy the genestealer halves off eBay.

Nope, not interested.

My brother used to have the hybrids back in the old days, never did like them, and not interested in the marine figures either.

Watching the gameplay video GW put out sealed my conviction to stay away from this particular one - rule balance looks extremely poor. Price doesn't help either.

You can make DW marines with normal models.
Yes, this is true. But, to get a similar set of models that come with this box, you'd need at least two boxes of most likely Sternguard. Then you've got to find the bits for a SM Bike, and a couple of Terminators. So, we're already probably talking $125. Next comes the Deathwatch Upgrade kit which runs $25 for 10 shoulder pads (plus guns, etc.). Those bits are metal, so you have to deal with the trouble of gluing metal to plastic and any issues that go along with painting metal. And, you'd have to track down shoulder pads for 10 different SM chapters for the right pad. So, we're already at $150 without the transfers. And, there are some SM chapters that simply don't have easily accessible transfer sheets or pre-made shoulder pads leaving you to have to freehand their chapter badges onto the shoulder pad.

So, the box actually pretty much pays for itself just in the 11 Deathwatch models that come with it. The Nids are more-or-less icing on the cake or a throw in when you compare the cost of having to put together a similar squad of models that come with this box set. Only reason I know this is that I considered going the Sternguard route myself but found out quickly that it'd actually be almost just as much if not more money to put together even a 10 man Deathwatch team and take a lot more time trying to track down the transfers, specialized shoulder pads, or freehanding the shoulder pads.

Please note that I'm not putting anyone down for using other models rather than these for Deathwatch. Just throwing in my $0.02 on the price if you want to play Deathwatch.

The Chaplain and Librarian models alone would run you $60.

I hate to vote no, but while I love the models, and haven't heard anything on the board game section, I NEED army storage a lot more right now

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field.

No real interest in the Marines. Sorely tempted by the cult models since I started Nids in 2nd ed but would realistically need 2-3 boxes to make up a force. And thats a lot of cash :(

I REALLY want the DW models, for playing KillTeam, but I cannot justify the price. So I will be going without unless I can find a decent price on Ebay for just the DW.

I don't really care about the game itself, or about the Imperial models, but I want the Stealer Cult models REALLY bad. My LGS has a bit box where things like that tend to end up. I'll wait until someone trades in the Genestealer Cult models and snag them out of the bin. The rest of it? It looks nice and I'm sure it will be very well done, but it doesn't interest me.

Edit: I just googled ablutions and apparently it does not including dropping a duece. I should have looked it up early sorry for any confusion. - Baldsmug

Wait, what were we talking about again? Did I ever tell you about the time I gave you five bees for a quarter? That's what you'd say in those days, "give me five bees for a quarter", is what you'd say in those days. And you'd go down to the D&D shop, with an onion in your belt, 'cause that was the style of the time. So there I was in the D&D shop..."
