I hope to get it at launch, and I'm wondering how many people are going to be doing the same or are saving up to buy it.

yep...
Cultists and Deathwatch are two of my favorite 40K things...
i think these models blow away the previous versions of both, so i'm stoked to get this set...
my old metal Cultists are nice, but these plastics are even better!!!
March is my birthday month, so i might as well treat myself...

cheers

Well, I don't play Nids and the Genestealer Cult can only be well added to the Nids.
Moreover, my Marine armies are rather focussed and so need no Deathwatch. Sternguard is the logical substitute.

I'm not planning on buying it, but I know plenty who are - It seems like a popular set and people have been crying for a Genestealer cult for years now.

I'm glad to see them getting it finally

Only reason to BIN IMO is the genestealer hybrids. You can make DW marines with normal models.

While I would like a few of the minis, I can’t justify the box’s price, even if I could find someone to split it with. So I’m just going to go without.

I play both but I can't find a place in my armies for either. I have 21 Stealers already, and a broodlord, plus the Hybrids are really only IG allies in those terms.

The Terminator could be Heavy Flamer and Chainfist, but I would need another Deathwatch Terminators
The Biker could be Khan but I want him to be my 6th Captain and I already have designs in the works
The Raven Guard could be Shrike but same as above, plus already have the conversion made and painted
The regular marines could fit in but would look absurd next to the Blood Raven marines if they were just thrown in.
Cassius could work as a conversion to the character as I need him, but £100 for 1 mini is bad idea.

Hyped me, but no. Great models, love to use some in my BAs and have loadsa Nids too already which i could expand with.

But waiting new Nid codex first and would rather start a new army if that's the only rules available for them. They're good but not overly fun, would rather some large broods of stealers popping out from ruins kinda thing.

Too far to my flgs to play the boxset alone too.

Maybe in the future, but not right now for sure.

It seems to be a 70/30 split no/yes at my LGS. However the yes has a few people buying 2-3 boxes to make a full genecult army, or for massive conversions.
Then there are the people who said no, but then stated they will buy half the box on ebay...

GW hit the cash cow with this one. Dig up those old specialist games, put them in a board game box with some cardboard tiles, hire a board game rules dude and sell it for WAY WAY WAY more than you normally would.
Then watch people buy several.

My LGS had at least 30 Betrayl at Calth boxes on release. There is 1 on display now. Everyone talked about the bargain they were getting compared to FW, there was talk that 30k would start up locally... never did. Everyone drank the coolaid, bargains don't matter, they still spent a couple hundred bucks.

Full on No for me with this one. The SW is a Blood Claw, I am miffed about that. Much would have rather had it be anything else. I know they went with the "almost like Ragnar Blackmane and wolfclaw" story line for him, but still, compared to a librarian, heavy weapons dude, chaplian, biker and all the other awesome, my chapter gets a guy with a knife? Nah, Ill pass. For a bit I considered the Genecult dudes for my Renegades and Heretics, but I believe they are all on 32mm bases, so that is a no-go as well. Ill stick to skaven for my mutants (cheaper too!)

If the game actually turns out to be a fun boardgame, I still wont, too expensive.

Everybody else brings the biggest guns they can find. More than half of his own unit decided "Better bring a helmet". The Space Wolf just says "feth that", sharpens his knifes and shaves his head into a Mohawk. I'll take that over Generic Ultramarine #398C-UM any day. For me, three words sold me on the full game: Blood Ravens Librarian

Much as I'd love to get the Deathwatch stuff and have a cool board game (seeing as I can't palm off the Cultists), the rules for the Deathwatch and the mixed bunch of them I get (seriously? A single Terminator, a single bike, and 2 jump pack dudes?) isn't worth the £100.

I might get the DW marines off of ebay somewhere, but I don't think I'll buy the box set, or not yet, at least.

Indeed, I think buying the Deathwatch Marines at eBay makes more sense than buying the whole box for the Marines alone.
I guess the board game is not worth playing.

It is!

There's a bit of a learning curve for the Genestealer player though, as the "Broodmind" cards have multiple things going on from what I saw.
They have the ability to launch what are called "Gambits", which REALLY make a huge difference for the Genestealer player. One example is that the Genestealer Cultists can't be attacked outside of "Assault" range(if you've seen the ruler, it has three brackets for "Assault"(melee/CQC range), "Combat"(anything beyond melee/CQC range), and then "Maximum" range)--which REALLY hurts if you set your Kill-Team up as ranged heavy.

Yes, I are buy Deathwatch Overkill ;-)

Gonna play the board game lots - planning to get extra tiles if they are going cheap.

Gonna play Genestealer Cult in 40k - free rules in White Dwarf, w00p w00p!

Gonna use the Genestealer Cult in Necromunda - after 15 years I can finally play the 'purge' scenario in Outlanders ;-)

Gonna play 2nd Edition 40k with the Genestealer cult too! Bought the 2nd Edition Tyranid codex from eBay, arrived today

Gonna use the tiles for special Necromunda scenarios too - say they are corridors rather than gantries and have a cramped and claustrophobic game deep in the underhive.

Gonna play 'not-spacehulk' on the board - got some old metal terminators with Lightning claws and a jerry can of acetone, perfect!

Simply put, this release has me PSYCHED!

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

Big nope for me.

Don't have/want any 'Nids as I've got way too much other stuff cluttering up the 'ol hobby closet. And if I were to ever build a Deathwatch Killteam, I'd want to convert them myself and have the various members come from far less renown/popular Chapters.

So I'll save my cash and squirrel it away for the soon after, if and/or when Chaos ever gets another release.

Big yep from me, going 50/50 with a friend. I realise I'm getting the better deal with the Genestealers, but he is happy.

The rules for the Genestealers just look so fun, and the models are really nice as well. Great job GW, great job.

I've ordered it, 90% because of the models. Looking forward to adding the Genestealer Cult to my Tyranids. Some infected humans will add some variety when I'm painting. Hopefully the boardgame will be good and I can add it to my boardgame collection as I'm not sure how often I'll use them in 40k.

Yes, this is true. But, to get a similar set of models that come with this box, you'd need at least two boxes of most likely Sternguard. Then you've got to find the bits for a SM Bike, and a couple of Terminators. So, we're already probably talking $125. Next comes the Deathwatch Upgrade kit which runs $25 for 10 shoulder pads (plus guns, etc.). Those bits are metal, so you have to deal with the trouble of gluing metal to plastic and any issues that go along with painting metal. And, you'd have to track down shoulder pads for 10 different SM chapters for the right pad. So, we're already at $150 without the transfers. And, there are some SM chapters that simply don't have easily accessible transfer sheets or pre-made shoulder pads leaving you to have to freehand their chapter badges onto the shoulder pad.

So, the box actually pretty much pays for itself just in the 11 Deathwatch models that come with it. The Nids are more-or-less icing on the cake or a throw in when you compare the cost of having to put together a similar squad of models that come with this box set. Only reason I know this is that I considered going the Sternguard route myself but found out quickly that it'd actually be almost just as much if not more money to put together even a 10 man Deathwatch team and take a lot more time trying to track down the transfers, specialized shoulder pads, or freehanding the shoulder pads.

Please note that I'm not putting anyone down for using other models rather than these for Deathwatch. Just throwing in my $0.02 on the price if you want to play Deathwatch.
