Subject: What is the single best (most effective / deadliest) UNIT in the game if points were no issue?
This has the risk of all getting a heated off topic discussion you can look in my spoiler why I disagree with you. If you still disagree with me make new thread on You Make Da Call and we can discuss it there.
Spoiler:
The formation is restricted to: Tiggy and non named Codex SM librarians. They will need to release an official FAQ or an update of either Loth or the formation with a rule that it can be included. No mail from GW's or FW's costumer service can change that.
Lot has the following special rule
FW's PDF wrote:Master Psyker: Loth may select (rather than randomly roll) three psychic powers from one of the following Psychic disciplines (see the Warhammer 40,000 rulebook, page 418): •Biomancy •Telepathy •Telekinesis
This does not include Sanc. You might perhaps weasel in a "he can roll on the table" due to the rulebook but selecting powers from sanc will never be an option. He simply doesn't have that rule, and the rulebook does only allow you to generate them not to select them
Here are the previous attempts in You make da call.
If we're allowing 30k, Iron Havocs are quite terrifying when fully upgraded. 10 guys with lascannons, -1 to cover and tank hunters is pretty nasty for one unit. Granted they have they're weaknesses, but I'd put them up for being one of the single most powerful units.
Also gal vorbak in a squad when fully upgraded can be a powerhouse too.
But 30k mechanicum would take the cake with myrmidon destructors, in a squad of 10 they're pretty unstoppable, though I've never seen someone field something like that

Now Swap out the Riptides for XV107 R'Varna Riptides....
(yes you can do that,FW will say so if you Email them asking if XV107s or XV109s can be used in the new formations)
You can only get 3 109 or 107 though. You can take them in the formation which requires 3 units of RIptides. So you can take three units of the equivalent Forgeworld ones, but the forgeworld ones can't be squaded so you only get 3 of them. I would rather take the 9 Riptides.

I don't know if there's a single non-vehicle or MC that could beat a maxed out guard platoon. We're talking:
Platoon command squad, 4x special weapons, and orders
5x infantry squads, 5 special and heavy weapons + krak grenades, melta bombs, and power fist
5 Heavy weapon squads, 15 heavy weapons.
3 special weapon squads, 9 special weapons
50 conscripts
And then you add in 6 chimeras and 15 commissars. That's 168 bodies and 6 vehicles.

He's been ferried through hell on a ship that's ten thousand years old to some godforsaken, war-torn rock; He is one of ten million men snatched from his home to fight a war he barely understands; He wages war against devouring hiveminds, ravenous demons and hordes of hyper-advanced aliens with strange technologies and sorceries he never dreamed existed; no one will remember his sacrifice, there will be no records of his deeds, no glorious parades in his honor, and no remembrance of his name. All he will earn is a shallow, unmarked grave on a forgotten world untold lightyears from home.
Yet for all this thankless sacrifice a Guardsman is a man, just like you. He has no millennia-old genetic engineering, no prophetic leader, no miracles of faith. He has his lasgun, his orders, and those beside him. He is the Imperial Guard.
And he will hold the line.

I'd argue that a fully tooled Wulfen squad with TH/SS would be one of the most effective units... though admittedly not on their own.
But where else can you get all that run+assault, feel no pain, and S10 attacks? Adding in frag launchers gives them effectively bolters that do D3 attacks per model and can be fired while charging.
As if all that gak wasn't good enough, they are W2 models with a 3++ save, and even THEN they can attack at the end of the fight they were killed in.
Can they be killed? Sure, but it will take an ungodly amount of fire to down that W2, 3++, FNP unit before they make it into assault range. If they make it into assault range, kiss your units goodbye.
I'm not even a space wolf player. This has just happened to me a few times since the wulfen supplement came out. It seems broken as feth to me, considering those models are relatively cheap for the number of buffs they also can convey onto friendly models.

The best by a country mile is 60 warp spiders. It's legal too. No one has picked up on this but such a list just won the LVO. 1200 points gets you that. Insane.
120 BS 5 shots at str6 that melts everything in the game other than AV13 all round and above... LOVES MCs. .. that deep strike, can jump when you target them and get to move in all your phases and one of theirs.
And people moan about scatbikes lol

Flesh Hounds are pretty great, although no upgrades. Just under 350 points gets you 4+ Deny the Witch, 5x Invuln, Scout, Fleet, Ignore DT, 2 Wounds, 2 attacks base, Furious Charge, WS 5, oh and 20!!! of these guys.

I have seen warp spider spam for almost a year now locally, that LVO dude wasn't really that innovative.
Also a single unit of Warp spiders can't be 60 models can it ?

How do you get 60 warp spiders in a single unit?
