The Ultramarines movie actually spent a good amount of effort figuring this out for bolter weapons. The result is a very specific and yet memorable sound, made up of a compilation of noises, like a clang, a bang, etc. You can watch the movie on Youtube, I think. Just pay attention to the sound the bolter makes, because I think they aced it.

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.
