Testing out my new C'Tan Shard of the Nightbringer against my buddy's Riptide. I took a few pot-shots at the Riptide in the first couple turns, even managed to take off a couple wounds! Eventually, the Nightbringer got within charge range. The Riptide failed his fear test, then rolled a freaking 3 to run away! Next turn, I charged again. He fails fear test and rolls a 4! Next turn, I charge one last time, he fails fear yet again, this time he rolls a 10 and run off the table. The entire time, we were both humming the Benny Hill theme.

You may want to consult what Fear does. It doesn't make things run away.

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

I had Marbo sneak in a drop a bomb on a 10 man squad of death company, killing 5, then proceed to survive all shooting at him, was assaulted by the remainder wherein he killed 1 on overwatch and proceeded to murder all of them in close combat including the adjoining librarian.

Remember, you don't hunt Marbo, he hunts you.

Illic Nightspear managed to survive most of the game in a duel with a Tau Commander. Never before have I appreciated a 5+ save so much.

Almost forgot, 5th edition I had a Tau commander go toe to toe with a squad of death company and somehow manage to kill all of them and then spend 4 turns dueling with Astorath until he managed to survive with one wound left. Sadly he was shot off the table after that by scouts.

A few weeks ago I had a game where my Thunderer managed to shoot itself in its own rear armour

Another time my Company Commander soloed my friends home brewed Primarch in close combat.

It hit the bastion like a gentle summers breeze.

not really odd more like beating the odds but IIRC it was a necron lord on a barge charging some firewarriors i had next to longshot who gets support fire, fires his rail cannon at it against his the lord it self. i roll a 6 to hit from snapshot, 6 to wound which didnt matter, and he rolled many ones including old ever living.

laughs were had.

There was much confusion on both sides.

Haha, that's awesome. I'd love to see the expressions on everyones face when that happened.
