At the rate we're going, Marines will definitely get their plastic Thunderhawk before we get an actual model line. (Codex not until Sisters are all plastic & top tier, and the Maple Leafs win 3 Cups back-to-back-to-back! )

It's just the old codex with the new datasheets tacked on at the end. Literally, same file with the extra stuff, even has the old psychic powers.

Does it automatically replace the one previously bought without cost as it's literally just some datasheets added?

No idea, just started daemons recently, didn't have the digital codex till now

Chaos Marines won't get anything more than a re-print of their current rat turd book, because heaven forbid Loyalists might just lose again to the "bad guys". Can't have that happening again!

Mind you, what Chaos really needs, is a complete Dark Eldar level 100% overhaul, since the rules are unplayable, and even worse, the entire model line beyond 3 kits is an entirely unsalvageable dumpster fire...
But instead, we're likely to get yet another Codex Marines release, because... 'screw Chaos'.

GW's to-do list before CSM gets an updated model line and playable rules:

>New codexes for all loyalist factions (excluding SoB)
>Another updated range for C:SM
>Another SM-related supplement
>Xenos updates (with nerfs to Tyranids)
>Ork Supplement with nothing to add
>New CSM codex that looks good on paper, but doesn't work at all, just to grab money
>+1 useless dinobot, and several one-click sets
>8E release, containing the DftS supplement rules as core
>More loyal SM stuff

Is it wrong of me to laugh, and then realise that there's probably a good likelihood of the above being true?

Well....
If the dreaded Cruddacce hates your faction, you are pretty screwed.
Especially, if he lost too often against them.
Tyranids. Yeah, right.

The main issue that's really holding Chaos back however is the turdfest excuse of a model range we have... Due to the Chapterhouse ruling, GW won't allow for new options if a model for it doesn't exist.

Currently, Chaos has the single worst model line and is outright missing most of our basic options.
Add in GW's lazy attitude and seeming 'Chaos hate' under Kirby, and instead of getting our basics looked after, we get Dinobots and Helturkies and end up with our entire army still stuck in 4th edition. Meanwhile, everyone else gets updated kits & new units full of options.

Chaos can't win when we're still stuck fighting with Plasma guns & Autocannons as our 'ultimate' upgrades, while everyone else is now toting about Scatlasers, Grav, Orders, and similar.

Your post is 100% accurate, but my loyalists would absolutely kill for more Autocannons.

2000 Khorne Bloodbound (Skullfiend Tribe- Aqshy)
1000 Tzeentch Arcanites (Pyrofane Cult - Hysh) in progress
2000 Slaves to Darkness (Ravagers)

Probably right before 8th edition, at this rate. Or possibly 1st of 8th, but last of 7th feels about right.

Meh, rules be damned. Raptors/Warptalon kit aside, at this point, I'd just kill for a plastic model line where our kits can actually build the basic equipment options for each squad!

Imagine if Tactical Squads had the option to take either Bolters or Bolt pistol/CCW, but the box only comes with 8 of each.
Or else Terminators who only come with 3 Storm bolter/Power toy, a single Combi-Flamer + Melta, 2 Power fists and 2 Chainfists.

And those are our 'good' kits!

(note: a Havoc Squad w/4x Autocannons only costs us $220 + tax - what a bargain!)
