If you desperately want a vehicle to pop, drop pods of meltaguns are your way to go (assuming you're not buying grav). If you drop a multimelta next to me and miss the 6, I'm going to obliterate that squad before you get a second shot. As others have stated, boxcars to be out of meltagun range. And if that squad does survive until next turn, they can fire the melta and still charge (possibly with a meltabomb) or at least kraks.

If you're rolling rhinos towards a vehicle, all I have to do is move 6" away for a turn or two while I blow your rhino. Rhinos aren't as durable as you're making them sound.

You keep bringing up terminators. In what competitive games are you running into terminators? And 9 times out of 10 they'll have storm shields anyways. If you're worried about terminators take plasma or just rely on your boltguns.

If you're going to sit around, the doubled range from a lascannon is worth the points. If you're moving, you're never going to fire that multimelta at full BS before it's dead. If you're podding in you'll die before you fire the multimelta. If you're worried about 2+ armor you probably also have to worry about an invuln, and if not plasma or massed fire is better.

When I started off I tried MM and they nearly all die before they ever get into melta range, whether that's in a rhino, in a pod, or sitting back. They just die. Tacs are not a durable squad.
