I really want to make the Marauder Destroyer work for killing big stuff, but I think I'm going to have to stick with my Knights for killing enemy superheavies. Or just get more artillery.

Do it! I love the Marauder Destroyer. It doesn't kill much but the psychological effect is immense! Your enemy will move heaven and earth to stay out of its way or throw bullets ineffectually in the air in a desperate attempt to kill it. No other superheavy I've seen has that effect.

1. True
2. The MD is not even remotely good at the role it's supposed to have - it's far *far* better for multiple target engagement, i.e. glancing or trivial pen (stunning) multiple armoured targets at the same time. Denting 4-6 rhinos at once with the hellstrikes will actually make a bigger difference than targetting some big scary thing with armour 14 or an invul.

Some people find the idea that other people can be happy offensive, and will prefer causing harm to self improvement.

I'm probably going to do a conversion off of a Do-217 J, if I can find a 1/48 kit. The sheer number of guns and bombs means it's amazing against infantry, even if it doens't do too hot against most big things. It could glance a Baneblade to death from the rear, I guess, maybe get some pens. Actually, I guess it can theoretically kill a Knight while it's at it, as long as it can shoot at something that isn't front armor.

Oooh a converted Dornier would look nice, I personally used a Vickers Valiant.
You want the Missiles as well and yes it makes this a very expensive LOW but it helps to solidify it as a threat to your enemy; blow your load upon arrival against light armour, shoot other things with your autocannons, assault cannons and heavy bolters (remember its a superheavy so benefits from the weapons rulings - also its a flyer so the top turret can be used as if its rolling).

Infantry and light armour are its best targets though.

I also really need to build a list to go with it. Most of the tournament lists I build that include a SHV that isn't a Knight have a Macharius Vanquisher as my alternate. Making up the extra ~120 points between the two vehicles presents its own problems.

Quad mortars are solid vs Knights, 4 str8 shots with re-roll pen for 60 points, but not amazing vs GMC.

Indeed. Gargantuans are weird in their durability because of how AP values work. T8 2+ save is essentially immune to autocannon fire but disintegrates* under lascannon and railgun hits, whilst an AV tank's toughness degrades more gracefully.

Of course, the latter takes it badly from haywire weapons, so such things vary.

Turbolaser-heavy warhounds and reavers are good, but expensive and do have the problem of engaging targets which can only be snap fired at. Exchanging shots with a pair of Valdors (whose neutron lasers can force snap shots only even on a titan), or a flyer like a Harridan, or an invisible unit can be problematic.

With space marines, the best things you've got are drop pod sternguard and centurions - although a relic leviathan dreadnought can make a surprising mess for "just a dreadnought" if people don't show it respect. Laser Destroyer vindicators can throw an unholy amount of Uberfreem downrange, too.

* disclaimer: I was thinking Bio-titans here. I'm fully aware that the bloody supremacy suit is nigh unkillable even with S10 AP1 guns.
