Recasting and pirating is a complex subject that isnt as black and white as people make it out to be, with all sorts of issues with things like availability and ability to procure (e.g. If you dont have access to the sales channel, say you dont have a credit cars or bank account or live somewhere that cant be shipped to, is it wrong to pirate?)
There's a bajillion facets to this that nobody is going to solve in this thread.

The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts. |

But to stay on topic BUYING 40k FORGEWORLD models I think depends on the utility you think you will get from it. Some of the bigger fancier items can be objectives of some kind at the absolute worst case.

Also remember the customers only duty is to find the best deal for themselves, nobody is owed a living.

That still doesn't excuse buying illegal recasts. You aren't obligated to buy FW products, but the correct answer if you don't want to is to buy something else entirely. I seriously doubt there are many people who don't have a bank account but are somehow still able to buy recasts. What do you think these no-bank-account people are doing, mailing envelopes of cash to recasters to pay for their models?

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices. |

Yeah the recasters are doing no "noble service". Just leeching off on other people's work. Pay less so can afford to sell for less.

I've known several people who didn't have cards (usually sub-18 year olds) that bought recasts because they could use some alternative payment method that didn't require a debit card.
Likewise, there are people who buy recasts that would never have bought anything at FW's prices, they're not in FW's target market, and thus FW isn't out an actual sale, they haven't lost any income they otherwise would have had, rather the issue is the much more vague issue of IP control, which also varies dramatically by where you live.

Really? What are they doing, mailing envelopes of cash to someone in China in exchange for their recasts? And they somehow have enough money to buy 40k stuff, but can't convince their parents (or anyone else over 18) to use their own debit card to pay for it? I'm really having a hard time believing that there is a non-trivial number of people who can't buy legitimate FW models but can buy recasts.
It's not vague at all. It's making a direct copy of someone else's work, just like if you pirated a copy of a video game and started selling downloads at 50% of the retail price. The "not a lost sale, never going to buy at that price" argument is just a weak excuse to justify buying illegal recasts.

Forgeworld Models are not effected by codex creep the same way as main GW models are.
When GW updates a model's rules, they can completely change roles or how they work in a army. When FW updates a unit, they tend to just tweek the rules for it continues to function the way it's suppose to threw edition changes. FW will not massively nerf any weapon options on their models for example. Just tweek point costs for balance.
The only downside you face is being stuck with the current rules into a edition turn over for some time, untill a new book to buy comes out. The expensive FW books is were they get you.

Well when forge world makes boarding squads a mandatory buy for imperial fists then prices them at £50 per 10 man squad I really have a hard time blaming people for going to Russian recasters.
£100 for 20 guys that you must have isn't reasonable.

There is one thing dfts did that I can see people using even with fw models which is now flyers of the same time can be taken in squads of up to 3. Even if you don't use the rest of the rules, that did expand the foc without just adding formations.
