Outside of the Modern Prometheus and the ethical questions raised, we haven't been splicing human genes into anything. Frankly we haven't even been putting jeans on many animals either.
This is whole new level of terror, and don't give me that claptrap about ethics, or rules, or blah blah.
“Not to go on all-Fours; that is the Law. Are we not Men?”
Incorrect. We've been doing it for decades. Here's an article for example from the year 1994
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/pigs-bred-to-carry-human-genes-1432494.html

Sheep

Cows

We've been doing it for ages, and nothing has gone wrong so far. Sometimes experts know what they are doing, despite the general anti-intellectual bias of the media and general public.

I have a dream.
If science can't bring me closer to an all-cat a cappella band named Chipmunk Massacre, then I'd rather we have skipped the whole Enlightenment thing altogether.
I like the way you think, and hopefully some of the scientists on this project have the same thought.

cuda1179 wrote:My biggest problem with spicing human DNA into animals is the potential for certain diseases to make the animal-human jump. Many potentially harmful diseases are locked into certain animal strains. If a hybrid gets infected the disease could potentially mutate to accept a human as the next body to infect.
That isn't something to be that worried about. If a disease was going to species jump it needs to evolve virulence factors to allow it to do so and for that it needs a very wide exposure to the new species over a long period of Time. A handful of lab animals with a small set of human genes are not going to create that environment.

We were once so close to heaven, St. Peter came out and gave us medals; declaring us "The nicest of the damned".

I came here just to post that and you beat me in the 2nd post, congrats.
Interesting to see this happening, although I find it funny they claim they'll have such perfect control to prevent things like a cow with a human's brain.
As a certain woefully typecast actor once said "Life will find a way..."
Doubt we would ever hear about it if something like that happened as that would be a PR disaster, but I doubt it would be the end of the world, just really weird

Cyborg dogs, hell yeah!
Now we are talking. Let's turn the dog into a cyborg freak then stick him in a giant weapons platform. No way that goes badly! I support Lassie!

I support anything that helps little boys and girls get the hearts they need because they were born with congenitive heart defect. Better yet, maybe this leads to helping stop it from ever happening in the first place.
Science is based on controls. Control your environment, sometimes the unexpected happens, and wow, look what we learned. If you quit using certain books as your moral compass, and start looking at the advancements that can be made, and the human lives we can improve, all without hurting another human being, then how could you not want this?
