That frag cannon kind of makes every marine awesome. Who needs any other weapon when you can have a 2 shot, S6 Shred template or a 24" S7AP3 Assault 2 or 12" 29 AP2 Assault 2 weapon.

Plus, the Corvus actually looks useful.

It'll be fairly limited in total unit types, but each unit looks highly customizable in unit composition and wargear.

I get the feeling DW seems like a complete army now, but on release it's gonna fall somewhere around the GK area; a few good units in some areas but severely lacking in other areas we haven't anticipated in, making them an overall good force for allying, but not as a straight-up army.

Which is exactly what it should be

One last thing, how would having a lucius drop pod work (would love one for the dred in the formation that's been leaked) in an army like this? Would it be impossible to have, as it should be formation/codex bound?

Cheers again

FW put up a thing listing a bunch of toys the DW will be able to use, IDK if the Lucius is in it, but it probably will be.

This. If I'm understanding things adequately, it looks like an army of deep-striking sternguard veterans with reroll capabilities that imperial fists have (at least, where it counts), except, the IF have it better.

Minus the possibly cheesy flier, this doesn't really sound like a particularly good army. You'd be better off just running vanilla 1st company formations from the vanilla codex.

Hm... the idea of an army formed from Militarum temptestus, an Inquisitor with his/her retinue and a death watch kill team definetly appeals to me.

His pattern of returning alive after being declared dead occurred often enough during Cain's career that the Munitorum made a special ruling that Ciaphas Cain is to never be considered dead, despite evidence to the contrary.

It'll be interesting to see what the Deathwatch codex actually has to say about building an army or if it will limit it to small kill teams.

As I understand the fluff, since the Deathwatch is the best of the best from each chapter, they don't need a force bigger than the kill team you get in Deathwatch Overkill. In the 40K fluff, a force that big could handle whatever Xenos threat they were tasked with taking care of.

I really wanted to build a full Deathwatch army back when Overkill came out. I spent a good amount of time doing research on lists others had built in the past, asked a few questions here, etc. Essentially, at that time, to stay within the fluff, you really couldn't build a Deathwatch army.

We'll need to see if the new codex allows for larger armies based on redefining the Deathwatch or some kind of retcon to allow them to be full armies. It would be pretty awesome if they did allow a full Deathwatch army, though!

SG

Unbound and captains/chapter masters since you'd get like a 10 man squad as a 1500 army that way so it'd fit them better than a full force like any other marine force.

I still can't bring myself to buy the dex. The faith, it is lacking.

The frag cannon does sound pretty disgusting though, I also really like the flyer.

As for a full army being fluffy, it's about as fluffy as full grey knight army, even though that is a bit more common in the fluff. Deathwatch are almost always a kill team or two. And that's coming from someone who has a deathwatch blackshields army. I think if you're going up against a purely xenos army, the fluff writes itself anyway. so whatever. Given the crappiness of 7th ed army construction and the shafting a lot of the xenos books have taken in terms of balance, it's basically eldar or tau. Any other just seems unfair lol.

I'm not sure how fun it will be to play against a pure dw force if it ends up being mostly pods and ore flyers and kitted out kill teams.

Do you play 30k? It'd be a lot cooler if you did.
