I'd say dressing up that way, especially so close to 9/11, is in EXTREMELY poor taste. The convention people were right to escort them out. It'd be just like if someone came in there dressed as Hitler or Osama bin Laden or something. It's just wrong, and it makes light of the sacrifice that so many made that day.

My guess is they did it knowing about the anime and decided to use the anime as a cover store.
There is NO way, being an american and being a millenial(The generation that sociologists says 9/11 was a defining event in their generation) they would think this would fly
