Although to be fair, Marines would play closer to the fluff if they were AV13 to the front and were kicking out d6 S8 AP1 shots from their bolters every round...

True! I was listening to a podcast on youtube, and one of the guys said he wanted the SM as a supplement to an IG army, with buffs to the SM stats. Whilst I think it would make the game more fluffy, I love my marine army too much to reduce them!

All clarifications aside, my Kabalite is finished! I should hopefully have better pics by tomorrow.

Also, more work on the Exorcist. Got the red, black, and gun casing done. Tell ya what, i'm not looking forward to freehanding the chapter icon onto the shoulder.

Finally, made a quick stop by my local hobby shop. Mostly RC stuff, but has a small GW selection and Tamiya paints. Got myself a new X-acto, and i'm loving how sharp and accurate this one is to my old one. They also had smaller bottles of Tamiya sprays for 7$, so I got one close to my Khorne red. Also some Zandri Dust for that chapter symbol.

Hope you guys enjoyed, C&C is always welcome.
Thanks,
JATW

Looking good dude. Nice work on the Kabalite, my only suggestion is that all those armour plates are screaming out for an edge highlight.

Exorcist is looking good too. Good luck with the freehand chapter icon!

I’ll agree that some edge highlights would be nice. Not that I’m one to talk, I normally skip that step.

Having a fresh blade can make all the difference. A while back I picked up a box of spare blades for my exacto. I forget how many are in there. 20-50 or some suitably large number. More economical to get them in bulk, and no worries about popping in a fresh one when needed.

Definitely! I would've edge-highlighted, but I had no time, and no paint to highlight with. Something we'll work on as the time comes. These new blade are makin' a huge difference! I'm finally able to clean up my new tac squad, as my knife broke before I got them. All is well now, new semester is in session, but so is the championship swim season. One of these days, it will relent, and I shall paint with fury!

Sorry I haven't been posting lately guys, a few snow days and a power outage left me with no school, no light to paint with, and now everyone's playing catchup on me. The medley relay made it to state as well, so I have to practice for that. I have been working on my Mentors DW marine, and I should have him and hopefully one other guys finished by the deadline. I'll get pictures up this weekend.

Major update time!

Got the one Exorcist finished up, and added another one to the lineup.

I've got no freehanding skills whatsoever, but I gave it shot with the squad markings. The first one was OK, but the second one was slightly better.

Better yet, I picked up my first AoS kit, some Sylvaneth Dryads.

16 models is a lot to do, but they're pretty simple so I should be able to bang 'em out when I have a chance. I'm thinking a grey wood theme with some bone colored leaves.

As of my monthly contest entry, he's nearing completion, but so is the month. If I have time tomorrow, he'll be done.

The remaining squad members are gonna be put on the back burner, as this squad has turned out to be a filler project of sorts, showing up wherever the fit.

As for the March monthly contest, the theme is "Space Marine" and I just so happen to have an unpainted UM standard bearer from the earlier GW release. After a slight cleaning mishap, the standard broke, but it looks fine enough for now.

Thanks all for reading, sorry for such a dump. I'll try to be more spread out in my updates.

Thanks,
JATW

Nicely done with the exorcists. The freehand squad markings are looking great!

School's been taking a toll on me me-time so not much has been done since last update.
First off, I did finish my entry for March's monthly contest, and I'm rather satisfied as to how he turned out. The gold was better than expected, and the cloak worked out pretty well. This is not the image I posted, but the base has actually dried at this point. A little too messy for my taste, so any tips as for how to keep it neater next time would be appreciated.

Secondarily, i've based two more of my tac marines. With luck, I should have the ML guy done by Monday.

Third, and most exciting for me, is the conversion work i've done on the latest tac marine I just built. He's gonna run most of the time as a generic marine, but if I ever buy Codex: IA, he'll be an Inquisitor. Seeing as how the Exorcists are technically GK successors, I assume they'd have close ties with the Inquisition and having one in a squad would happen from time to time. I hope he's not too ostentatious, and could still be run as a regular marine in tournament play. There's a side-by-side comparison pic next to the squad sergeant for reference.

I should be entering this month's tournament with a couple Dryads from the squad I picked up a couple months ago, but we'll see how it goes.
As always, thanks for reading, your advice is always appreciated.
Thanks,
JATW

And thus begins spring break for me, a time of progress for this blog. Currently up to bat are the trio of trees i'm painting for this month's contest. I might add another 2 should I have the time. I'm going for a burnt tree look, with ashen leaves and glowing limbs. After that I might start work on that inquisitor/marine I built.

Let me know what you think,

Burnt tree dudes are looking cool. The glowing ember hands look great.

Nice job converting up the inquisitor too, he looks great but think he could also pass a a normal marine if required.

Burnt dryads are an awesome idea! I may have to steal that.

Alrighty folks, certainly been a bit since i've posted. Hit a hobby rut at the worst time, summer. Made nowhere near as much progress as i'd like, but in my final week I made a big push. I picked up Dark Imperium, quick review, love the minis, like the new rules(friend who I play with dislikes the movement characteristics, but we both love our new psychic phase), will be starting a DG army, i'll be occupied until December easily. Within about a week, I finished up the first intercessor squad and the auto bolt rifle sarge, pics will be up later today when i'm home. Next step, when I have the time(3 AP classes is no joke), is the Hellblasters and the 2nd lieutenant. In order to expedite the painting process, i'm gonna try to pick up some AP army green and one of their red primers before my window of spray time passes here in Washington. Also considering some Pop Goes the Monkey Exorcist shoulder icons, makes my job easier.
All in all, back into the swing of things, should be posting with some consistency now, but all depends on school.

Thanks for tuning in,
JATW
