I would consider it still 'OK'. Now all the competitive list is with sniper ability or tons of ranged damage. Runesmiter will not stand long anyway facing treeman hunters, empire cannon or Presocutors with Jevelin.
Also the Bulwark of melton stone will stop you from charging. Then Fyreslayer is just a group of extremely slow old dude with very poor ability to capture objectives.
If thinking only in terms of Fyreslayers, sure. But Forge Brethren can be combined with any other order. Think about three 2+ save Bastiladons on the field. Or the nastiness that would ensue using Sisters of the Thorn. A Runesmiter on foot wouldn't be too hard to keep alive either, considering the ease of denying line of sight for such a small model. Or throw him in cover and give him one of those three save buffs for a 2+ save, re-rollable with a Battlesmith nearby. Toss a phoenix stone on him to heal a wound every turn and now he's become a tank for enemy shooting.

Oh come on now, @Ninth, Fyreslayers OP? Never gonna happen
I do see what you're saying though but imo more of theory hammer on paper which plays out very differently in real games. Our ward saves and tunneling is the best thing we have but no magic, slow moves, only one long range shooting, very squishy heroes save Grimwrath, and in practice not very many buffs if not in a GA. But we do have our moments, especially in the right match-up. I assumed it was only one unit of aurics in the formation but that;s still 8th ed hangovers. My opponents don't mind using all 3...and when I see what they are bringing I know why.

You do have a point; it wouldn't be Fyreslayers OP, rather just that battalion. At any rate I'm pretty sure its supposed to be just one barricade per turn.

if considering unity between frictions, then AOS is filled with massive OP lists... Let's limit the discussion in each friction by themselves.
Also one point is how Line of Sight is implemented. Some places will consider that 'a taller unit will always see shorter unit that is blocked by an equally short unit'. For example a group of Vulkite bers can never block the line of sight from treeman to Runesmiter. Only a salamandar might do that.
The description in general rule and FAQ doesn't really explain a prcatical way of blocking sight, especially the shooter can always move a little bit before shot.

It would be behind a tree, building, etc. It's a small enough model that a random pillar in a ruin could hide him, but YMMV with what terrain you use.

the description of the battlion is 'a unit of Auric Hearthguard that is within 10' of Runesmiter from the Forge Brethren can fashion makeshift defense from.... '
Some similar description we can find in the same book like
Runesmiter special ability: 'Runic Empowerment:In your hero phase, a Runesmiter can raise his weapon... '
Vulkite Berserker two weapons ability: 'when attacking with two fyresteel handaxes, a Vulkite Berserker can... '
For the first, the ability obviously can be used more than once if you have more than one Runesmiter.
For the second, I don't think if you have a unit of berserker with two weapons, only one model can reroll hit of 1.
I am definitely not English speaker (note my typo) so I dont know this grammar stuff. But I believe in English 'a' means 'any' and 'one' means 'one'.

Clarification:
The runesmiter selects one Fyreslayer unit. Mounted, he can do a bubble once per game.
Fyreslayers with double axes re-roll all misses with axes, not just 1 (that's mostly a Chaos thing). If you can get a large unit of vulkites, have the runesmiter enchant them then they re-roll hits/wounds and have a ward. Nice
And, come on, your english is great. You guys learn it in the first grade there. Don't be so modest.

You're right. I thought the wording was different than what it actually is. Hopefully they can FAQ it to clarify, though.
