Like most things in the eldar codex, pretty decent. Standard sniper guys, but from what I can guess, they are a little cheaper than would be expected and are stock - no purchasable upgrades. 12 points gets you a 36" sniper rifle, a pistol, shrouded, move through cover, infiltrate, fleet. Mesh armor 5+ but the shrouded gives them a good cover save.

Otherwise: Colorful army - check; lots of different play styles - check.

Ah, we also have a melee-centric "scout" unit - Striking Scorpions. 3+ armor, infiltrate, move through cover, stealth, pistol, sword, grenades, a special rule that gives them shrouded until they assault or shoot, and more. They are a bit more expensive at 17 points each, but they are pretty good. They often wreak havoc in the backfield in my experience.

This might be what I need, as Marines were not doing it for me, and I don't really like Chaos(or being the bad guy) so Eldar would help me with the lore aspect

Okay everyone here is telling you eldar without mentioning something Important. You won't play a lot of games.

I started with eldar as well cause they look cool, turns out they are so broken that even when you go out of your way to make a sub par list, it's still leaps and bounds better than 90% of what you going to fight. It got so bad Noone would play me a game even if I promised no Scatterbikes, sliders, or wk's. People just looks at eldar and you can see the fun drain from their faces.

So I switched to chaos daemons and it's been a blast, I still bring my eldar to hardcore tourneys but for playing with buds and at the lgs than daemons are a lot friendlier and easier to swallow for other people, also I think they look sooo cool(so chaotic ;D)

Anyway do what you want of course, just be prepared if you choose eldar there WILL come a time where you get another army just so you can still roll dice. Unless of course your group is hardcore WAAC, in which case I'm super jealous as people are here are super casual while I am not xD.

Thank you all for the excellent responses. As per Ecdains post I am kind of put off by Eldar. In the circles I intend to play with there is a WAAC Eldar player and no one enjoys playing with him. It's a small group as well so I don't want to collect the army as him, there's about 12-15 players so it's hard to avoid playing the same army as someone else but I'd like to try and mix it up a little.

Or maybe that's a bit daft worrying about what other people are playing.

I have thought about trying out Admech as a lot of people give them a "fair" review if that makes sense? What's the opinion on them?

Admech and skitarri have always interested me. They have amazing guns and fantastic rules and bonuses in their formations. Honestly if you like a shooty feel they are probably around tier 1.5-2 right along side khorne daemonkin(melee but similar balance levels), strong but fair. Beatable but very difficult vs a good general.

I would have honestly gone with these guys if I didn't already have eldar, seemed redundant to have two shooty armies. So I started with Daemonkin first amd branched into Tzeentch. Now I run a chaos version of a Hound star with 27 WCs xD. Honestly it's pretty crazy powerful but people like playing it more cause it's just funner to play against someone you interact with. Eldar was just "jump up, shoot, jump back" rinse and repeat until you win on turn 3/4. Anyway I got off track. Point is I think Admech would be a great choice(especially if you like the stamping look).

How could one build an Eldar list that's not super OP? I really don't have interest in running bikes, but I do wanna use lots of aspect warriors and rangers

A non-op list would be something like this (for 1000pts-ish):

Farseer on foot/spirit-seer. as HQ.

As troops one unit of guardians, avengers and snipers. The first two on a wave serpent and a falcon, do put upgrades and squad leaders in both vehicles and squads, it should bloat the points a bit (as in, the wave serpent ought to be around 150 and the guardians as much). The HQ goes with the falcon.

War-walkers are fine, do give them either plasma or lances. A squad of one or two is fun to play.

Lastly bring one more unit of aspect warriors. If you feel you're playing a weak army bring either banshees or shinning spears or hawks as they aren't prime performers. If it's a mid-tier army bring reapers, dragons or spiders. If tau (but friendly) bring scorpions to scare him.

Sounds like a good list. I really like scorpions models and fluff so I would love to field them

They are, in my opinion, a strong but not broken unit: you see, they are tough for an eldar unit as they'll often (read: if you do your job) rock a 2+ cover save backed by a 3+ armor save. Then there's their combat abilities: if anyone tells you that two 2 S4 AP6 attack is broken punch them in the face. Sure they have I5 but... but the cream is their awesome mandiblasters which makes them rather efficient as you ad quite a couple wounds very early on, and constantly unlike the HoWs. Always bring their exarch. I6 and three attacks (which should be boosted to 5) at S6 is brutal for a 30 points model. He's a nice mid-tier challenger.

I'd say go with Eldar. Just like many others have echoed, just avoid spamming certain units and you'll at least be more enjoyable to play against. As an IG player, I don't expect to win against even de-optimized Eldar lists. However, there is a difference in enjoyment for me between watching my guard get utterly curb-stomped while barely putting a dent in the Eldar's forces, and being able to at least make the Eldar work a bit for it and putting a big dent in their forces. You should really go with the army that fits what you want, don't base your decision on what you think other people will be willing to play against unless you plan to do spam builds.

I'll second this, they're actually really good write ups to get a feel for an army and yes funny. Plus you can tell it's written by people who actually play the game unlike a lot of commentary.

I'll also second suggestions of Tau. Tau list building actually has a lot of viable options which can't be said for too many armies. and avoid eldar because basically then all you do is vomit on the table and win. no one will want to play against you.

*Edit* I see now you already said you picked up ad mech. Great choice. They're some of the most amazing model's GW makes, their fluff is cool, their units are pretty unique, and again they look amazing. The only niggle is until GW fixes the total fk-up of a release you're basically going to be playing out of two seperate codexes with rules that don't mesh together in the least. still want to know who's bright idea it was to do that.
