I've never understood why Brits end words like "idea" with an "r" sound.

I've never noticed that till now actually

There isn't really a reason behind why certain things are pronounced the way they are; Americans just think that there is some general rule that is being followed. Trust me, there isn't

That's interesting - DOW2 pronounced the Catachan Devils as "cat-a-chan". There's quite a few pronunciations on there by various units that might clear up long debates over words such as Tyranids (tir-ah-nid) but the confusion now lies in whether an audio drama/book or a video game takes priority.

I always said "ka-ta-chan" like most, but I'll adopt "ka-ta-kan" if that's right.

The hardest word I have found to agree on pronunciation is the old Necromunda gang "Delaque". I always said "De-La-Que" (like a snooker cue or shopping queue), but others say "De-Lack" (like plaque).

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

I prefer Ka-ta-chan really, and I probably won't adopt ka-ta-kan, even if I tried. I guess pronunciations for things like regiments could be justified as varying from person to person in the lore, whereas a collective like Tyranids may be more centralised on one pronunciation.

Same goes for Delaque - I say de-lack, but it makes sense for others to perhaps say it differently

I'd always pronounced Delaque as "Deh-lake" which is probably plenty wrong. I had no idea anyone had an issue with Tyranids though. I've never ever heard a single person pronounce it differently (gamers, friends, podcasts etc.).

Tyr-uh(ah)-nids, right?

Tzeentch is pretty well pronounced - people either ignore the T or slip it in subtly.
