Pity. Cross-platform servers are one of the neat things about the Final Fantasy online games. Back when I played FFXI, I enjoyed the ability to switch between PC and X-Box, depending on which device I felt like using.

Would have been nice if it was cross platform, xbox servers were down all day saturday :( I actually had to work on some models for a change. the horror!

I switched things up and started a kajit mage, going for DPS though not healing, and I got a demon pet, the little dinosaur kind. Pretty fun so far, can't tell which character I like better.

I was hoping the guild and story quests would be different for different factions, but they're not :(

Oh and when it comes to sorcerors, do they have to wear robes and use staffs? I was kinda thining it might be cool to have heavy armor and a 2H sword or mace or something more unique. I saw there were some heavy armor skills that regen mana so maybe it would be ok? Or will it make my spells not hit as hard?

Armor (generally):

Heavy = Health
Medium = Stamina
Light = Magicka

If you want to tank as Sorc then go Heavy Armor. If you want to DPS with a weapons go Medium. What it does is make it so you don't regain that resource very quickly. It won't change the damage of the spell but how often you can cast it. You also have to recall the weapon attacks regenerate Stamina while staves regenerate Magicka. Going lots of Magicka skills with a melee weapon will hinder your ability to cast them as frequently.

I have a Nord DPS melee sorcerer but he is Stamina based with five piece Medium and two Heavy. There are a few a abilities you can morph to Stamina versions but it takes quite a while to get that where it needs to be. Lightning Form you can morph fairly early on to Stamina but Daedric Armor (rank 30 Summon) and Dark Pact (Rank 30 Dark Magic) take some time to get and to morph. I used those two skill lines primarily and didn't get to those abilities until level 29 or 30.

ok, i'll stick to robes and my fire staff Is a shock staff more for AOE? I was thinking when I get to 15 I could set up my main bar for solo kills and the 2nd for groups

For the most part. All the Destro staves do dps but fall broadly into these categories (like armor!)

Fire: Damage Over Time
Shock: Multiple Targets
Ice: Support

So I switched again .. decided to try a dragonknight in full plate and 2-hander.. I think this one is the most fun of all. I'm mostly just putting points in Argent Flame, 2 Handed and Heavy Armor. I also picked Redguard for my race, they have some stamina abilities that I thought would be a big help.. but I'm using my argent flame abilities the most. Makes me wonder.. would this be better as a combat fire mage maybe wearing cloth and a fire staff? They have lots of cool firey skills. I haven't really been putting too many points into Magica, but I don't seem to be using much magica in fights

Go Dunmer if you want to use Fire.

I'm doing a Dunmer Dragonknight with dual wielding swords, shes a bat gak insane DPS berzerker.

1. Draconic Armour.
2. Fiery Chains skill to instantly pull myself to a target to close the gap.
3. Earthen Fist for a stun.
4. Searing Strike for DoT and self heals.
5. Dual wield skills (flurry of blows etc) for burst DPS, DOT and self heals.
6. Rinse and repeat.

Lets me zip around the battlefield quickly for a very fast and frenetic style of gameplay. Just need to be careful to moderate my magicka usage. Not very good for multiplayer, but great for soloing. For a heavy armour user, its very mobile.

Her weakness is in ranged combat, she has next to zero ranged abilities (well, I do, but I never use them).

One shouldn't go more than 5 pieces of an armor type. Set bonuses go up to five and passives kick in at five pieces as well. May want to go five heavy and two medium. You can then also get some boost to Stamina from the medium armor passives. It is also a lot easier to get levels if using it while leveling then getting to end game and grinding it out.

Oh.. hmm.. so what about those skills that say you get whatever bonus for every piece of this kind of armor.. they caps at 5 pieces? I went back to my lizard archer/backsatabber, I was doing full leather but I just got some purple plate shoulders.. should I do like 5 leather and 2 plate?

There are five passives for each armor type with the first three based on number of pieces and the last two based on wearing five pieces of armor type. The slight increase generally doesn't out weigh the loss of the other for overall.

7 Pieces of heavy:
Physical Resistance 2534
Health Regen 28%
Stam/Magicka Regen when hit 1302
Max Health 14%
+20 weapon/spell damage when hit stacking to +120
+8% Healing and +50% Stam/Magicka from Heavy Attack

5 Heavy Pieces/2 Medium
Physical Resistance 1810
Health Regen 20%
Stam/Magicka Regen when hit 930
Max Health 10%
Weapon Crit +656
Stamina Recovery +8%
Stamina Cost for Stam Abilities -6%
+20 weapon/spell damage when hit stacking to +120
+8% Healing and +50% Stam/Magicka from Heavy Attack

So, I finished the Fighters Guild quests and got a pretty awesome prismatic bow. But that was a few levels ago and now I can make a new bow myself that does just as much damage. Is there any way to upgrade items to raise their levels? Or do you eventually just deconstruct and recycle and make or find new ones?

Yes you can improve weapons through blacksmithing/woodworking.

I didn't mean changing it from like a green weapon to blue, but actually increasing the base level from like 30 to 40 so that you can always use that weapon if you like it and never really outgrow it?

Also, on my map when you zoom way out there's big areas that looks like you can't get to. Like you can't highlight them at all.. are they going to be added in expansions later? or are those areas unlocked with DLCs?

No. If the region currently existed, then you should be able to click on it and view the map, even if you haven't bought the DLC (in fact, with the recent One Tamriel update that turned the game into an open world you might even be able to travel to regions you haven't purchased, you just don't get the quests and other paid content).

I doubt they'll ever add enough new regions to cover the entirety of Tamriel, though they will certainly add some of the regions. Elsweyr for instance.

Right now I'm stuck on this one quest in Coldharbor, where I have to stop the chains in the forge.. there's some elf guy trying to cast a spell and these waves of bad guys keep coming. At the end there's 2 big frost atronochs that I managed to take down barely, and then 2 big storm guys that I just can't :( really frustrating. I'm level 39 now, I'm full bow skills and dual wield, but I usually do assassination skills instead of dual wield skills. But those storm atronochs are tough since there's 2 of em, and they have crazy AOEs, I just can't get away from em to get enough shots off to do anything. And it didn't help that I tore through the whole zone following a tough group, then that last fight I was suddenly solo.

guess I have to wait and come back later.. I see super high level guys in dungeons that just waste everything that looks at em.. dunno if that's gear or skills or what, but maybe I just need to get my level up before I come back. This is really the only quest I've had trouble with though, most other solo quests have been tough but not impossible.

Most things can be done alone but not everything. Sometimes in a multplayer game you may have to play with others. Also 39 is probably to low for Coldharbor, One Tamriel or not. With someone else it isn't as much an issue but solo it most likely will be.

Gear is effected by level so if you are wearing low level gear it won't have much of an effect even with allowing people to go anywhere with One Tamriel. If you are 39 but any gear is below a certain point it will not work as well as something closer to your level. This effect will get worse when you hit Champion Point level. You need to keep your stuff up to date but anything below CP160 will be fairly cheap from Guild Merchants. Considering the speed of leveling getting gear sets and getting the right trait isn't that important until gear cap, just having the right level and type will matter more until then.

Yeah I usually like to play and explore solo, and do the occasional random dungeon .. same deal with games like WoW. So far this game has been the best $30 I spent in a while. I was thinking about signing up for ESO + but still on the fence. I'm afraid I'll get to the point where there's nothing new enough to do anymore, then I'll get bored and ditch like WoW. But I like the idea of having a crafting bag since there's SO many different crafting materials.

I think I'm gonna hold off on the Coldharbor quests for a while, and play through the regular zone stories for the other 2 factions. I guess I just jump to the way shrines on the other side of the map and it'll let me start all of the quests just like if I made a new character?

I had the day off yesterday and spent most of the day doing random dungeons for the first time... now most of my gear is blue stuff should have been doing that all along I guess but there's been so many new places to check out.

I solo a lot as well, and there is nothing wrong with that, but there are some things that just need multiple people to do.

The VIP is mostly worth it if you craft. A lot of it is nice but the Crafting Bag is obscenely nice. I am a Master Crafter in Provisioning, Blacksmith, Clothier, and Woodworking.

Finally made it to level 50. I had no idea there were even any champion levels, I assumed when someone had 265 next to their name, they were just regular level 265. So what's the max? I think I've seen people in the 500's

After 561 you can keep gaining levels in CP but you don't get anymore CP to spend. Gear stops at 160 so when you hit CP 160 you never have to worry about out leveling your items, you just have to find the right items.

oh, cool. Yeah I was worried it was items were always going to be out leveled forever. Kinda sucks when you find something purple that's really cool, and then a few levels later a green item is better.

I started out loving my bow but not so much anymore.. I mostly use it for AOEs for trash mobs when I'm doing random dungeons, everything else I do dual wield, I went all the way with assassination skills and liking that a lot. I was reading about some nightblade tank specs that sounded like fun too so I might try that some day
