Looks like the same for UK orders. I'm in the US, but had already ordered the game and fig via northstar. Not sure yet, but I'll probably spring for the whole pack. WIsh they were available separately though.

Ah, thanks for the info. I actually like the models so far, they are goofy but ooze character. A nice change up.

Scotland, but nowhere near my rulebook

Got the Kindle edition. First impression - It's based heavily on Song of Blades and Heroes.

Second impression - by god that's a lot of different tables of modifiers. Hope the summary sheet is good.

Hah. Well, hopefully it isn't too complicated that it bogs the game down. Please let us know how it plays when you get the chance. How thick is the rulebook?

I don't have my copy yet, but I'm pretty sure it's the standard 64 pages of all the other trim Osprey Wargames series rulebooks.

Sold.

SBH with more detail and sci fi is what I was hoping for.

I can deal with modifiers, I struggle more with rules that reference other rules and seemingly hundreds of possible short actions (Infinity).

I know where my Amazon gift cards are going.

Same here. Looking forward to trying it out, just went a bit crazy on Reaper's store to get some cool minis for it!

I got it few days ago. On a first glance rules although marketed as a simple look overly "tablefied", lot of different tables, special rules (traits-you use these to build characters). Please bear in mind that these are conclusions based purely on reading exp.still didnt manage to try it. All places that I have seen are saying that games runs smoothly when you start playing and all those modifiers are not so "scary" as one would presume just from reading.
Book is great looking with some characterful illustrations and overall layout could be better but those are small nitpicks.
One big complaint is lack of anykind of summary sheet or quick reference sheet or "term index" (I am not sure what is correct word for that in English but I am talking about those words in alphabetical order at the end of books with page numbers). Regarding QRS they told that they are going to release them as soon as possible.
First impression is that this game has potential but unfortunately it wont reach popularity like Frostgrave did. I know that a lot of people were hoping for something along the lines of Frostgrave (in terms of expansions, new options, heroes etc) but we ll see.
All in all for a 10$ + free miniature (which looks great) on preorder its shame if you missed it.

I'll have a Let's Play up next week. The tables are a challenge. Photocopy the relevant pages and it makes play way easier.

When you first design characters to try it, just let the models you like design them and dictate your crews. Once you've played a few games worry more about designing folks yourself.

It's a fun game, but a bit dense to learn due to the book design. Actually give it a go if you're interested though; the fun is in the mission design and gameplay.

Oh, but Ambidextrous Dual SMGs (or worse yet Intelligence Needlers) are bloody broken. Star Cops OP.

You'll see.

Hey, I pre-ordered mine and haven't gotten it yet. No fair! :(

How big of a departure is this from the designer's previous work on Of Gods and Mortals and Fistful of Kung-Fu?

Edit: This game is not going to get anywhere near the support of Frostgrave. if it was, it wouldn;t be part of the blue wargaming series and instead would have its own stand-alone hardcover book to get yous tarted. This is a one and done. The only precedent for a Wargame series book getting further books is In her Majesty's Name. That was early in Osprey's run and they have not repeated the same idea with any other game.

Mine just arrived. Figs look good and rulebook is nice. I'll wait until a QRF and unit roster is released before giving it a go.

It looks very different from OGAM and FoKF. MUCH more detailed and it's a d20 system.

I agree that this book is probably a one-off. Almost all of the Osprey rulesets are like this. Not a big deal to me though. I've played ALOT of indie and small-shop rulesets and I've rarely played any so much that I really needed more material. The one exception is Song of Blades and Heroes and there's lots of expansions for that game. Games like this are designed to be relatively low buy-in and aimed at folks who play a variety of games. These just don't tend to get played with the same repitition as something like 40k. Further, folks that play out a game like this are usually the kind of DIY types who have no problem house-ruling and expanding on what's written.

Well I dont mind if some rules or combos are OP we mainly play narrative fluff driven games. When I first heard of it my idea was to use it for Inquisitor inspired games and thankfully all different traits can be used to represent everything.
As I told in my earlier post I cant understand why they didnt include QRS summary and roster example. As far as I see a lot of people bought it for the same/similar reason as myself and hopefully this game can deliver.
@Achilles- looking forward to your Lets play review

A represetntative of Osprey has said over at Lead Adventure that there will be a QRS and Roster available online.

What I'd really like to see is an online unit builder like the ones Andrea has made for all the rest of his games. I've used the builder for SBH alot and have found it extremely useful.

Eilif - any points costs for traits published in the book or is that left to the potential online force builder per Adv SoBH?

Everything has XP costs and some of the traits have multiple lvls of upgrades (max 3) where you multiply costs depending on how "skillful" you are with something.

I was thinking more in terms of list building rather than character development - so does the XP "currency" serve both purposes?

Xp currency serves both purposes, character creation, weapons and equipment buy upgrading characters during campaign etc.

I think it's planned to have some legs. On the Facebook group Andrea has said they are already testing and working on the first suppliment.

Well that is good news. I hope it will also be published through Osprey. All the blue series is very budget conscious in terms of layout. I would have preferred the "Frostgrave" treatment, which makes for a stronger brand and more enjoyable product.

Is it a easy system when building to take a model and kit it with what it has?

Main purpose I picked it up is to use my infinity models a bit more in a faster shorter game.

So Like I have Joan of Arc. Can I kit out a cyber heavy armored female with some energy sword?

You can construct anything you want. If some weapon is not listed you can easily switch name but keep stats etc.
Dont have book with me but as far as I remember there are 6-7 types of armor and weapons range from primitive bows to advanced energy based weapons. There are also psykers and their respective skills included.

Definitely good to hear about an expansion. I prefer the affordability of the blue layout, I just hope they don't skimp on art. The In Her Majesty's name books (blue series) started out great and got progressively less pretty until in the last book there was almost no art and photos at all. Lots of good game content, but I was rather disapointed in the last (third) one.

That is the one blue series book I don't own. I guess I will get around to it at some point but maybe not.

While the blue series costs less, it's not a dramatic price difference (at least factoring in discount retailers) and I think it really helps the "brand" of the game. Plus with FG the supplements are all SC anyway, so no price differential there but still the same higher production values in terms of artwork and layout.

One of the strengths of Andrea's systems, including this one is that they are deliberately intended for you to take whatever miniatures you happen to have and stat it up based on what it looks like. His games make it easy to play WYSIWYG which IMHO, makes them alot more fun for all involved. You don't have to shoehorn your minis into stats that might not fit them because you can always modify an existing statline or come up with an entirely new one. It also cuts down a bit on min-maxers and power gamers a bit. They can still deliberatley try and break the system (it's always possible in a game with a unit creation mechanic) but it's easier to rein them in when the mini is statted based on appearance.

In Song of Blades there was still alot of abstraction, but it worked well. Advanced SBH and Tales of Blades and Heroes a bit less so. In Rogue Stars there is still some abstraction but not nearly as much as there's more room to work within when using D20's so you can more accurately stat up the minis you have.

If you're on the fence about IHMN, check out In The Emperor's Name which is free online. IHMN is just ITEN ported from sci-fi to Steampunk/Victoriana. Also, IHMN uses D10s instead of ITEN's D6s. I like them both, but if you're not into Steamplunk/Victoriana, I wouldn't bother. The exception would be, if you like ITEN and you would like a similar solid game engine using d10's to build off of. The core IHMN mechanics and unit builder formula could be easily ported into most any setting easily and if I were going to base a new game off one of the two, I'd probably go with IHMN just because it uses d10's.

As it happens, there was a limited effort some years back to take ITEN and make a geneirc sci-fi variant. I think it was called "Blaster" (not to be confused with "Blasters and Bulkheads"). It didn't go far, mostly because ITEN can already handle most sci-fi settings if you just ignore the 40k labels. I like ITEN but with the added flexibility of D10's I can say that I would buy a Sci-Fi Version of IHMN in a second if Osprey made one available.
