Well to be fair GW does deserve all the complaints that they get. To you, maybe. GW's profits would seem to disagree, as would all the people buying their stuff. Profits were still down this year and sales dropped the only thing reducing the damage was the 4 million bump from selling their IP to anyone who could afford it, remove that and they would of been down more than the 0.9% they did. Sales on minis are still in decline. GW report revenue from royalties separately from sales revenue, so actually the 0.9% drop WAS a sales revenue drop (and 0.8% at constant currency). If you include the revenue from royalties, they actually had a rise in revenue of 2.8%. So the decline in miniature sales wasn't really significant overall, selling their IP didn't reduce damage so much as give them a healthy bonus.

Let's face it; 40k can't get any worse.
Can it?
Not really.
It will be interesting to see if they bring a new edition or carry on with all the supplementary books and new formations.

Well 7ths been a failure if they just carry on as is sales will continue to drop.
It needs a completely new system that's balanced and fun, I'm not sure GW can pull that off.

GW have done ALOT better in coming out with fairly priced and long awaited products for the past year to year and a half but I don't have faith that they'll be willing to make the drastic 3rd edition level of changes to sweep away the scale creep and imbalance that 7th edition army building crammed into the game (i.e. throw everything away just like they did in 1998 and start from scratch). They tried to do a perverted version of that with AOS and got spanked for it because their impetus for doing so was pure greed and not actually a desire for a better game.

Progress is like a herd of pigs: everybody is interested in the produced benefits, but nobody wants to deal with all the resulting gak.
GW customers deserve every bit of outrageous princing they get. |

Implementing a balanced system is practically impossible. The problem is too involved. A computer scientist would say its NP hard.
If you new edition arrives, what will happen to all the supplementary books especially formations?

Two horus heresy boxed sets full of old armor marks and previously never done figs like custodes, deathwatch minis and rules, and genestealer cult off the top of my head. I'd have killed for all of those (including the genestealer cult set even though I don't play traditional nids but they'd sit nicely on the shelf with my still NOS space hulk genestealers) a few years ago and bought them all. Instead, because of 6th and then 7th edition's rules stupidity dampening my enthusiasm for all things 40k (and that of pretty much both of my regular opponents), I haven't bought any.

No it's not impossible at all. If it takes 2 years, 5 years or even 10 years to make a fun balanced system, so be it. It can be done. It just takes work and effort and TIME. Thing is at least as of right now, this is something that Games Workshop doesn't want to do. GW doesn't want to put effort into their rules. GW doesn't want to test their rules properly. GW doesn't want to put the time into making their rules.
Yes I would say it's impossible to do in a one year time, but if done properly, fixed as it goes, it can be done and is very possible to achieve a system that is balanced and fun.

There's a link in my sig that sums up my feelings on this pretty well. I don't think GW can make 40k workable without a major 3rd Ed style overhaul. Too many rules on top of rules, formations on top of formations. There are too many sources of rules, with armies having units and formations spread across multiple books and even boxed sets and online bundles having their own rules.
It's too much. The system needs a hard reset.
But it won't get that. It will get another patch.

And I fully agree with all HBMC wrote in that 2+years old post.
You can only rebuy stuff so often. And everything again after 2 years after 2 years`That's like 3 rulebook and ALL THE OTHER STUFF three times.
And it's not even going to be a better rulesset...

Exalted my good man.
I don't see how people manage to complain just as much when GW fails as when they don't...

Hopefully. Yesterday, there was a tourney in Regensburg. 40 places but only 22 players attended. Not a good development.

Just shows how bad things are getting, they must fix their rules and lower prices to be competitive given they are no longer the biggest fish in the pond.

You know, you could simply replace your posts with: "I am sick and tired of GW", at least they'd be 100% accurate.

AoS even with ghb is not balanced, In fact it's far from it ghb was clearly a rush job that had no real play testing.

I've played AoS and I wouldn't use the word robust to describe it. Playable, yes. More than I can say for 40k right now though.
As much as I detested some of the WFB to AoS moves, the same type of thing might be what 40k needs. It needn't be the same type of shift. WFB and AoS have almost nothing in common. Ranks to skirmish, totally different universe, etc... 40k could still be 40k, just with rules that make sense and are easy to approach. Because real, AoS with a halfway decent point system and a few house rules for measuring and shooting is OK. I'd be OK with something similar for 40k.
I'm really interested to see what it brings, hoping for the best because I WANT to enjoy 40k but just can't seem to right now. On a positive note my son and I whipped up a 40k conversion for battlelore 2ed and it was awesome. It's like the best of all worlds. Awesome minis, quick and easy to understand game, tabletop feeling meshed with a board game, was a blast.
