The entire Imperial storyline is basically riffing on Lucifer's fall, set in a gothic futuristic dystopia.
Plus, there's all kind of weird aliens.

SO I have a Girlfriend and whenever I try to explain 30k to her I make it sound boring. You're challenge (if you choose to accept it) is to explain the 30k universe from the point of the primarchs creation. This isn't a rule, just a suggestion, but try to keep it succinct. She has a very small attention span I'd appreciate it if you could give special reference to Sanguinius and Ferrus Manus (my two primarchs)

you have a girlfriend?!

It was. God is all-knowing and all-powerful, so there is no way it could have happened otherwise.

Easy.

40k is the Star Wars with Luke, Leia and Vader, etc.

30k Is like the prequels like Jar-Jar, Anakin, Obi-Wan fighting that army of Robots. It's the events that led to 40k.

That's it. Easy to follow*.

30k is kind of boring, TBH. You really, really, really have to like Space Marines to get in to it. The Solar Auxilia and Mechanicum are kind of bit players, at best.

Anyway:
Before the Grim Darkness of the 41st Millenium, there was the 31st Millenium, when the Emperor of Man had just united humanity into a new Imperium and was conquering the galaxy in the name of science and reason with 18 legions of genetically engineered super-soldiers, and a bunch of other normal humans too. Things looked great, until the leader of one of the legions decided "screw science and reason" and converted to the Dark Gods of Chaos, and convinced Warmaster Horus, a leader of a different legion, to join him. They got 7 of the other legions to join them, and revolted against the Emperor and his Imperium in the name of the Dark Gods, starting the Horus Heresy. At the Battle for Terra the traitors were defeated and Horus slain, but the Emperor was mortally wounded, and 10000 years later his Imperium is barely clinging on to its worlds and he is worshiped by most of mankind as the god of humanity.

Guardsmen, hear me! Cadia may lie in ruin, but her proud people do not! For each brother and sister who gave their lives to Him as martyrs, we will reap a vengeance fiftyfold! Cadia may be no more, but will never be forgotten; our foes shall tremble in fear at the name, for their doom shall come from the barrels of Cadian guns, fired by Cadian hands! Forward, for vengeance and retribution, in His name and the names of our fallen comrades!

30k is that boring precursor era that's a lot more interesting as a vaguely touched upon element of backstory than it is as an actual storytelling setpiece.

Moreover, 40k fluff isn't exactly the greatest writing in the world, and it's only going downhill with each passing release, although it has a lot of quirky atmosphere and weird charm going for it.

That said, GW's done a pretty terrible job of doing much to appeal to female demographics, and somehow even moreso with 30k than 40k (Name a single notable female 30k character. One who can talk.).

If she seems interested in picking up the hobby, or supporting your interest, go ahead and give her a basic primer on things so that she either could begin expanding her interest or feel more involved in your hobbies, but remember that it might just not be something that interests her. And that's okay.

Depatable. On that logic god has pre-determined who goes to hell and who goes to heaven before we are even born and all we do is dance on his puppets as he has already decided I will write this post for example.

Or we could consider possibility he's all knowing but does not dictate what people do so while knowing Lucifer would fall he didn't stop it by say killing Lucifer. That's different from actively setting up his fall unlike emperor actively setting up so that eventually marines would exterminate each other.

This is pretty accurate. A precursor era which was originally just hinted at, but when fully realised in film/book format turned out to be embarrassingly lame.

Wow, it was not my intention to spawn a theological debate (definitely not a debate on the "logic" of Christian mythology). In my original statement, I only meant that the general beats of the story are there. It's fairly obvious that the original story concept is cribbed from that general framework, maybe a touch of Paradise Lost thrown in for good measure.
