All that you from limiting games to a single CAD at 1500 points is shifting the meta, rather than fixing the meta. Remember, we started this current roller coaster with a single CAD, and it was bad for at least half the armies in the game; no reason to think going back is an answer.

2. from a single codex?
Could you? Which codex has titans in it?
I can't recall a single codex that would qualify beyond Imperial Knights. I'm not sure how that codex can or can't fill a CAD at 1500 points.
Titans are LoW choices for the various imperial codexes so you can take just codex space marines, for example, and take titans.
Telion + two scout squads + warhound. 590 points left.

The future of 40K will be multiple rules sources and/or detachments/formations. Look at Age of Sigmar for ideas on how that will work.

well, things going full circle and all, that was my major bugaboo with orcs in 3rd. then things got simplified, then we got demonhunters and witch hunters, then we got multiple editions of single codex army lists, and now we are back to needing a large binder or a book bag to carry everything for your list. . .

I was trying to point out that with out a Titan in a chosen codex it wouldn't be possible to use it as a single codex army which at the time was what I thought the intent was, single cad single codex.

This. It's just a different kind of broken, albeit easier for list-building but I think most of us are capable of understanding most list/build styles at this point.

I'll ask a genuine question.
What is the point of a thread like this? I see it frequently ("How do we fix..."). Is the point to simply gather opinions from various players? Are some people planning tournaments and trying to put their own spin on things? I would imagine if anyone is going to attempt to create a new way to play 40K it's going to start at their local shop/gaming group.
Does anyone think they're going to fix 40K and that people will adopt it and it'll start spreading globally as "the" way to play 40K? I know that stuff like ITC seems to work for wide-spread tournament use in the U.S.
Is this thread about a personal project, or just chewing the fat?

Any of the above, I imagine.
I know I play BFG using fan made rules and fixes as we see fit. The 40k side is also fairly flexible, so discussions help refine ideas into something workable in a group open to house rules.
And forums are for discussing things, and I'd rather see threads like this than "Who would win in a fight!" style threads.

It is though. A warhound is a LoW choice for codex space marines so I can take a space marine army with warhound and its a single CAD from a single codex.
It's more than one book but their are loads of books that add units to other codexes (especially for marines).

Thoughts?
I don't see any thing in your post that resembles oldhammer.
Oldhammer doesn't have a CAD, oldhammer is heroquest, or it is, at the nearest to what you are describing, second edition, or netEpic, basically anything that doesn't have a CAD.
Yeah it's a really broad term that can mean many things. However, if the term doesn't mean something that exists outside the current close combat system, vehicle AV and moving six inches, then it's a meaningless term. I think you should rethink your whole thing.

//rant Nope this isn't oldhammer at all. It is in fact one of the worst idea's a TO can ever have.. Single CAD is just a bad excuse for some conservative top tier players to eliminate the competition before a single die is rolled. It doesn't stop death stars, wulfy wulf stuff, khorne beast hordes, super heavies, grav, warp spiders, monster walkers,, 2++ rerolls or scat bike nonsense. While at the same time single CAD or (any sort of detachment restiction) murders my Inquisiton army and cripples my ork list to the point that it is no longer fun to play with them. The game just isn't the same with the new codexes. If you want to play oldhammer play oldhammer, go and pick up your 5th edition codexes and rulebook and play with those rant// Now the useful stuff. If you want to have an old hammer feel you might want to try out these modifications to the game. - Detachments offer no bonuses of any kind this includes formations. - Monsters, beasts, artillery, vehicles, jetbikes and multi wound models can't score. - A unit can only be joined by max 2 independent characters - Kill points are calculated on unit cost 5th style.

Its true, single cads would absolutely destroy orks beyond repair. But orks get nerfs all the time to appease other factions.
