Incidently if you're looking to take a mixed GK/SM force it might be useful to wait until Rise of the Primarch releases, given the "3 leader box" consists of Gulliman, Cypher and a GK it seems reasonably to assume we might get a mixed GK/SM formation or even a detachment

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

They're much tougher for not a large increase in points, and if you decide to give them a Psycannon or Psilencer they'll be allowed to fire it on the move. A good generalist build is one Psycannon and one squad member (not the unit leader!) with a Daemonhammer.

That's probably not going to happen. I don't like the normal terminator models, and the GK are even worse. They look ridiculously over elaborate and busy, I'd end up converting and reworking the entire squad to get something that's even halfway tolerable. At the moment I don't plan to field any terminators, GK or otherwise.

I'll probably be waiting until them regardless, I've still got the main force and all the vehicles to do first, before I even start looking at how I want to work in a squad of GKs.

Okay so you don't like the grey knights look or motif, and really only want them for storm bolters. Why not run an inquisition force and equip the henchmen with bolters. They can also have power armor. Sb + power armor = 12 points per model. That takes care of your increased range. Then do a group of death cult assassins, crusaders, and your inquisitor for your melee. With the same price of your one grey knight squad you will get 2 units each with a purpose.
