8th edition in June then? A special preview of the new edition would be a decent prize.

Might just be a follow-up campaign series to "The Gathering Storm".

Remember they kinda/sorta teased a follow-up when they showed off Guilliman.

So, buying new stuff from your local Games™ Workshop™ Extortion™ Center™ is worth more points in this contest than anything else? What a surprise. They came so close to having an event that might be interesting, but it's yet another disappointing failure.

The points for purchasing from the GW store makes sense, they are after all footing the bill to fly winners out to Dallas

The total cost of flying a few people to Dallas is tiny in the context of a marketing event run by a company as large as GW. The purpose of the "buy everything here or you can't win" rule is not to offset the cost of some plane tickets, it's to use the event as a cheap sales gimmick regardless of what is best for their customers.

(so points for supporting the store again is logical)

There is no such thing as "supporting the store" because the store is not an independent entity. Buying from your local GW store and buying from the GW website are exactly equivalent.

This is actually false. Every individual manager and store has its own in-store sales record which determines the success of the store. If the store stops making money, the manager gets disciplined and eventually replaced. So if you like your local manager, yeah, support them. Or else they won't be there for very long.

And just like FLGS - you uses it or you loses it.

Yes, GW stores can collectively absorb the odd loss making period in a way that a lone FLGS can't. But if you think GW are happy to just have a duff store that's losing them money no matter what they try, you're barking up the wrong tree entirely.

Now, if anyone actually wins without purchasing things from a GW store, I'll admit that I'm wrong, but as it is currently, it looks like the points from buying GW is too much of a bonus.
Obviously, it's not really a competitive event, but requiring buying directly from GW to win is just wrong in my eyes.

That is totally different from being "forced".

I totally agree it's really unfair and to get maximum points you need to buy product from the store, but thing is you are not forced to by anything. By saying forced it comes out as whiney. We don't have to take part or even if you do take part you are not forced to do anything.

That said, it is unfair since someone who already bought, assembled and painted his minis already to be at a disadvantage over someone who just started into the hobby or can't afford to buy anything at the moment. This is suppose to be for the love of the hobby. So why is someone being penalized for supporting and loving the hobby in the past suffer compared to someone starting the hobby now?

Talk about Kirby spitting into the veterans face again. Here we are all over again "thank you for supporting us before, but what have you done for us lately?" It's like you are being punished for not doing the GW hobby and that is buying GW product.

Now I am curious. Is this a lottery? If so there can be laws that a lottery has to be equal for everyone and if you say "no purchase" necessary that would mean not buying anything doesn't give you an advantage either.

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

Everything is made up and the points don't matter. 40K or Who's Line is it Anyway?

Looking back at what I said, I should have said "encouraged". Oh well, too late to change the original post.
You are entirely correct in what you're saying.

Very interesting. This may actually motivate me to paint 40k again. While I'm sure I won't win between not buying any new models in months and not buying from my local GW, it's still a nice idea. I want to see what the local community brings out.

I can see where people are coming from with the advantage one can get from buying your way to the top. But I think there's enough points available that a quality army could easily win over a newly purchased one, at least at a store level.

Necrons - 3000 pts
HH Imperial Militia/Cults - 1000 points Check out my P&M blog! (https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/805464.page)

Some things I learned.

• Buying models in store and putting forgeworld upgrades on them counts as models purchased instore, and converted.

• There is no limit on quanitity of Forgeworld, except for a Gathering Storm event which works like an escalation league (as I understand it)

• "Converted" for the purpose of the store-level competition can mean everything from a headswap plus. The HQ in Dallas, however, looks for more advanced conversions.
