The archetypal "Chaos" human civilization in the Eye of Terror as hinted at in the old 2nd edition Chaos Codex, consists of world under the rule of a Daemon Prince (or Daemon Primarch) or a Chaos Champion. Their immediate mortal servants like CSM form the ruling class, and everyone else is a slave underclass, often maintained at a lower technology level. Slave warriors are recruited from the population to be fodder for the endless conflicts on that world or between worlds. Those that excel may be selected for implantation. Those that survive the process and the subsequent initiation rituals become inducted as new CSM. It actually doesn't sound that different from a SM Chapter ruling over a feral world really.

As for Xenos vs Xenos conflicts, if they wanted a human POV, they could use the perspective of a human slave or captive. Orks take captives to work the factories, but maybe an Ork Warlord (Blood Axe perhaps?) wants a human to chronicle his greatness even among the non-Orks. That human POV would provide the vehicle to ask or at least think on the questions and issues the average Ork would not spend time on.

"Gofftrek" and Felix,.... I'd love that!! Could be a paradoxical homage to the original.

It would be my dream if we got a legion-styled book for the six major orders of the Adepta Sororitas. Fluff on the major conflictss they have took part in, heraldy/ squad markings/ iconograpy, the current conflicts the sisters are in, artwork, detailed history on each orders background, and some examples of paint schemes (sorta like they ones they are doing with eldar and space marines atm). I don't think FW would ever do it, but you can always dream. Hopefully, when GW releases a new codex for them it will be a lot better fluff-wise than the current book.

One of the Dark heresy books goes into a fair bit of detail about the Adepta Sororitas history

I'm still fascinated with Primarch stories, especially the ones that develop them into more than just the three sentence blurbs weve always known.

I want more about Ferrus, Jagathai, even Corax.

Konrad has been getting alot of air time lately too, but I still love reading more of his exploits.

Any intercine conflict/strange sub-factions/alternate organizations within someone that isn't the Imperium. 70% of the Codexes in the game are populated almost entirely by humans, and the only novels I've been able to find with non-human protagonists are the two three-book Eldar/Dark Eldar cycles (sitting in the middle of how many Space Marine books, now?). Show us more of the aliens. More Tau, more Orks, more Kroot, do something less formulaic with the Eldar...

More about the specifics of how most of the primary's, loyal and chaos came to be int he position they currently are now or lead to their disappearance, rather than to shed more light on where they could be now in terms of those that are missing, but the thought process and motivations going into those that left, were they sound of mind at the time? Did all the deamon primarchs accept deamon hood with open arms, what were there initial thoughts on attaining their daemonic rank? How do they perceive their chosen gods, their enemies... Why is Lorgar in meditation with detail.

Try the novel "Fire caste". The most 40k book I've read in a while. Keep a close note on the actions of the steampunk-mech priest dude.

As for myself I'd like to see more on the average joe in the Imperium. Love stories, people desperatly getting by, praying to the Emperor to get good grades on a written exam, marriage in the Imperial church, interplanitary travel/trade/tourism, life with going to the Imperial church, forms of entertainment in the Imperium and so on.

For instance, I'd love to see the story about a young dashing noble travelling the Imperium, getting into trouble and deciding that more then anything he wishes to visit (for instance) an Eldar craftworld, and thus sets out on this quest to merely walk on one. After many an adventures he finds one and pleades desperatly to just be allowed to set his foot in one.
Something like this. Non war related stories, with wars being a constant background reminder that in the grim darkness of the far future there is only war.

Edit: Creds to the OP, this is the most positive thread I've seen in a while

Edit 2: actually, reading the space marine schedule, I'd really like a story about a Space marine that's not so good at what he does. A space marine that just barely manages to get elevated from being a scout. One that often get punishment from poor performance, often has his head in the clouds, constantly questions himself but never falters in his faith and somehow keeps surviving where his more heroic and apt bothers die. Maybe forming a minority conplex. What doyou do with the bad Space marines?

I heard somewhere that ADB wanted to do a book about the founding of a space marine chapter. All the Terra-side politics involved with selecting a progenitor chapter, gene-seed, assigning them a domain, etc. And all the duplicity and backstabbing and paperwork that gets in the way.

I'd read that.

I'd also love a multi-part series in the same vein as the beast arises that covers the ascention of Vandire, the Reign of Blood, the Plague of Unbelief, and the formation of the Sisters of Battle.

Also, a Tau centric story without involving the Imperium... just generally divorce it from the space opera elements of 40k into a harder military sf tac. I'd say Tyranids against a battlesuit pilot PoV character would be perfect, but then it'd just be Starship Troopers.

It could still be interesting to put a Tau spin on the story, but I agree that fighting something else as the conflict would be better.

I've dabbled with the idea of writing a fanfic about a Water Caste spy-in-training on a "liberated" human world during a Chaos uprising. A story about the Tau encountering some of the more... unfortunate aspects of humans without the context to frame it would be a lot of fun. Doubly if there's no fething Imperium to save the day.

I'd like to see more xenos lore expanded upon. Black library is flooded with the exploits of the Space Marines and the heroic imperium, and more than half of the games codexes are human. It would be nice to see a change and get some real focus on xeno characters, rivalries, and motivations. Eldar and the Dark Eldar have a decent start, but I do want more. And I would like to see different types of Eldar characters as well given that their books tend to feel very samey. The alien races are so varied and interesting its incredibly annoying to me as a player that their cultures are only lightly touched upon while the various human factions tend to get all the attention and spotlight.

Check out Ian Watsons Inquisition wars triology. I think it's the second book, if memory serves. The only example I know of where communication with the Emperor on the throne takes place as well as an insight into what it's like for him.

This.

Also, stories concerning Tau society, is it really so uniformed and loyal, or are there bits of resistance and divergence (besides the Enclave) working within it. May be from the POV of a rebel part of a small cell, from someone who slowly but inexorably starts to doubt Tau society and tries to seek others like him (are there any), or from an enforcer that has to hunt the "doubters". I believe Tau have the potential to have lots of grey areas, and still being somewhat a better place to live than the empire

I would also love some novel on N'dras sept. That one always intrigued me.

Another good and interesting setting could be a newly established colony in an hostile place that struggle to become a sept. Or maybe a Colony that wants to secede from the empire.
