I've been building various Freeguild and Stormcast miniatures and I'm really exited to see what sort of warbands I can form out of them. Bottle, could you clarify whether I understood correctly, that you can freely mix and match withing the grand alliance?

It was also a bit unclear where the line in power of the allowed units lies. I understand that you cannot have huge things like Dragons and Giants, but how about stuff like Dracoth Riders and Mournfangs?

Another thing I was wondering was the champions and upgrades. They said that they don't cost any extra renown, but presumably there was something besides sportmanship that prevented you from declaring all your handgunners to be champions and giving them longrifles?

It seems that the hero choices are really important, considering that they eat up most of your points... I really cannot decide what sort of hero I want leading my plucky Freeguilders. How did you like your wizard, Bottle?
I was thinking that a mounted hero might be good, so that they could rapidly move where they're mostly needed (you can have mounted heroes right?)

(I perfectly understand if your NDA prevents you from answering some/all of these questions.)

Glad you had fun Bottle. Sadly on this side of the pond, I was working so missed it. Will you make a recap?

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

Everything is made up and the points don't matter. 40K or Who's Line is it Anyway?

Pretty sure I heard Rob answer a question from the chat saying that warbands are only restricted to a single grand alliance.

Hey guys, I will try and post a summary and some pics when I get a chance. Just super busy at the moment!

With the upgrades for Warscrolls they all have to be legal and you are only allowed one of each Warscroll in your Warband. So for my Handgunners I could have one champion, one standard and one musician and the rest would have to be normal. As the upgrades don't cost any renown you'd always upgrade as many models as you can (this is different to Hinterlands where you needed 3 models from a Warscroll to get an upgrade).

Things like Dracoths Riders are in there but they are usually so expensive you wouldn't be able to field them unless you were playing 70+ renown, as you have to have a Hero in your band and something like a Fulminator is almost as expensive again.

I liked my Wizard because Mortal Wounds are always good to have access too and the Shadespire campaign gives Wizards some extra spells they can learn. The problem is the wizard has such low bravery and is squishy. There is a command ability you can take to mitigate this and some good artefacts too! For Freeguild I can't think of many better options,in fact you are limited to either the Wizard or the Freeguild General because everything else is resin (witch hunter, warrior priest etc) and not included.

Hope this helps!

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

Question:
If I take a Lord-Aquilor, in the average Skirmish match, how much wiggle room am I looking for?

I've got a box of Gryph-Hounds and a Lord Aquilor. I'm ready to get hunting...

Also:
Are the point values I'd need for Skirmish in that book, or am I going to need the Eternals book?

Both our games came right down to the wire and the scenarios enabled us to both be in it till right till the end.

But, from my experience with Hinterlands there are some hero models that become grossly overpowered. Mainly the Heraldor, the Lord Celestant and the Knight Azyros. All can spit out lots of Mortal Wounds to multiple units.

When I release Hinterlands v3 (which will become an add on to this rather than its own thing), I will include balance amendments, especially caps on mortal wounds.

All the points are in the book... except, the Knight Aquilor isn't in there. Perhaps they deemed him too expensive? It seems odd because there are Varanguard and Fulminators. To work out his renown it is his GHB points cost divided by 5! :-)

Edit: so that would make the Aquilor 40 renown, and each Gryph Hound (you can have up to 3) 8 renown too. Your minimum size would be 56 Renown!

The real question here; are fanatics in? They would be terrible but hilarious.

Road to Renown! It's like classic Path to Glory, but repaired, remastered, expanded! https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/778170.page

I chose an avatar I feel best represents the quality of my post history.

I try to view Warhammer as more of a toolbox with examples than fully complete games.

Just to confirm that we're on the same page:
Lord Aquilor isn't in? Like, at all?
Are the Vanguard Palladors?

If Varanguard are in there, but these guys aren't...that's pretty crummy.

Haha, they're not - but they should be in my opinion. No reason a goblin can't hide another goblin and a massive ball and chain under his cloak :p

Palladors are in there, actually everything bar the Aquillor from the Vanguard range. My hunch is that no heroes 200 points or above are present in the book.

Could be something to do with the command ability messing with scenarios too.

I think Fyreslayers and Bonesplitterz would be interesting to see in a skirmish fight... Both sides clashing to see which one of them wears their loincloth better!

Thank you Bottle for all the info. I forgot the 'plastic only' limitation. A bit lame, but I trust we'll get the renown prices for all the resin and metal dudes in upcoming Hinterlands update, right?

Not just bar the Aquilor, it seems like every Stormcast unit barring the Aquilor, Celestant Prime, and Drake heroes are in there.

That's kinda dumb. Like dumb enough to put me off of wanting to play it.

I agree it's a shame they missed him out as he seems so fitting to this sort of skirmish game with his fluff. Sorry man :(

It really makes me wonder if they didn't include him because of his Command Ability/Aetheric Compass.

But if that's the case; just cut the rules out and bump his points cost down significantly.

It was good to meet you, looked like you were having a great game. Don't worry about not being able to speak much, it wasn't the best timing for me to arrive. If you are ever over again and want to get a game in...
