It is something I've learned long ago to deal with. New edition - new SM stuff. SM are the poster boys for 40k, and always have been, so they'll get new toys any time a new edition rolls around. At least this time around, GW has indicated that the battle between the IoM & Chaos is taking center stage again, so that (hopefully) means a model line revamp. My older CSM look weedy, even compared to the latest round of SM, much less compared to the gigantor Primaris. I have alleviated that somewhat, by starting my NL build using models from Evilcraft, but I desperately want new Terminators - the Evilcraft PA guys are a smidge taller than the current CSM Terminators. If I can get new termies, and new cult kits, I will be a happy Chaos worshiper.

Like how many people flocked to buy the new Assault Marines? Or the then-new tacticals? I think the Devastators were the only ones that sold well because of the Grav Cannon with Amp. It feels like GW had a minor panick attack when they realized people weren't buying marines as much as they used to.
Probably due to the fact that you need maybe 30 and you were good for most of the formations and such from 7th? 3 boxes (Or less if you find great deals on eBay) and you're good for a LONG time unless you're playing Apocalypse games regularly. Come to think of it, that's probably another reason they made the primaris marines. There are so many floating around on eBay they might not even be selling many actual marine boxes
the Horus Hersy Boxes proably contributed to this, if you bought both boxes you basicly had most of a full sized space marine company, right there. more to the point, there wasn't much room to EXPAND the Marine line, not infantry wise at least (as it is centurions where, until people realized how good the stats where, mocked) Primaris Marines allows GW to put out infantry kits for Marines again, that they know'll sell well. that said I don't see vanilla Marines going anywhere. I mean at the very least the Heresy Boxed sets where among their best sellers

A new edition is the best time to market new marines. Even though it's over 15 years since I bought any marine models, I try not to see this as a zero sum game.

Personally, I love my metal miniatures. The 2nd ed Eldar range is what made me fall in love with the hobby. There is something satisfyingly substantial when you hold a metal mini in your hand.
Metal miniatures also have other advantages, such as doubling up as a dangerous weapon. Just be grateful you never dropped a metal SM Dreadnought on your foot...

It's kind of funny how Dreads got bigger and lighter with each new model released.

Eventually they'll be yards across, and you'll have to tie them to some terrain to stop them from interfering with ceiling fans.

the new one looks riptide sized if not bigger, perhaps we should test Dakka Wolfs theory and weigh it when it comes out?

Probably a bad example, as that was a contemptor, opposed to a more regular 'stunty' Dwarf Tomb. Eh... I mean regular dreadnaught. Different type and all.
Now, if the next step is to see a new, bigger, contemptor dreadnaught...

I found early metal minitures in 2nd when GW bothered to provide slots ok... but by mid 3rd, the only slots provided that I remember were on metal dreads. Everything else was just flat metal surfaces, hence nicknames like Abaddons. Does anyone seriously remember turning up to their gaming club and NOT having to spend the first 10 minutes glueing back arms on to the torsos? I don't remember a single time this didn't happen despite copius amounts of padding and bubble wrap for transit... one bump in the road on the journey and you just knew.
Many years ago I was exhilarated to be able to replace all the metal arms of my foot-Death Company unit (who were all metal torsos with metal arms originally), with plastic arms. Plastic onto metal is absolutely fine.
Metal was not what it was cut up to be. Still isnt.

If you used the GW super glue, sure. It fell apart just looking at it.
But even back then, pinning, green stuff and a proper super glue worked just as well as it does today.
For single pose models (without intention to convert it), I prefer metal.

how did this become about metal models rofl. one guy who had a completely off topic response....
also... if you pin metal, they rarely break. it happens but in my exp it took SERIOUS bumps in the car to break a well pinned model and I'm talking about some of the worst offenders ever to exist... bloodletters. the hands were the only part of the model you assembled but if you drilled a deep enough hole into the arms, they didnt break ever
marine metal arms were EASY to heavily pin
